Can't open Keynote 6.1 files

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and installed Keynote 6.1. But the files that I recieve from other folks created in the new version does not open. It just says the file can't be opened.

So i try to open in the older version Keynote 5.3 which i still have on my system to make sure if its the new version file or no and I do get the error - You need a newer version of Keynote to open this presentation.

How can i fix this problem? I can try installing the new Keynote but want to make sure I can do that from Mac App Store once i delete it from my system.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance!

My users are having this issue as well. Both are running Mavericks with Keynote 6.2. They are able to create and open their own Keynote files, but are unable to open each others' files. This makes collaborating on a presentation very difficult.

One workaround found so far is to Export the presentation to a Keynote 09 file, which then opens fine.

Anyone got some newer fixes?

Hi I had the same issue - not being able open the keynote files shared in Dropbox. I make documents in two different macs, too - same OS/keynote versions.

The problem seemed to be: two versions of keynotes in my mac. The "invalid keynote document" message was always coming up when I clicked the keynote document because the older version (5.0) seemed to be linked (even if the new version 6.2 was set as default) in the first place. So I deleted the old version, then it worked. I originally had the older keynote version on Marverik and updated to Yosemite, updated Keynote too. But then there were two Keynote applications - old and new (old one in the iWork 9) which I did not notice till now. It seems that this problem can happen anyone who has been using Keynote because the co-existence of keynotes are not obvious, and it does not tell anything about it in the message - only alarming you that it is invalid. Totally strange.

Following the comments by many in this community, I tried zip filing, opening from the application already opened, and it worked. But, for my case, in the end, it was the collision between the two versions of keynote - which was not visible nor obvious. I did not have to do anything else. Hope this helps.
