Work-around for ScanSnap wireless connection issue

I have a MacBook Pro, running OSX 10.9.2, and last week I purchased a ScanSnap iX500, which is a great document scanner.

However, I prefer that it connect by wireless, and not USB. I set it up wirelessly and it worked fine, but when I shut everything down and booted up the next day, the MacBook did not see the ScanSnap.

I called tech support and they got it reconnected, but the next day the same thing happened.

I learned that if you right-click on the ScanSnap Manager icon in the taskbar, select Connect By Wi-Fi, then uncheck and then recheck "Connect automatically to the last connected ScanSnap by Wi-Fi" it is the quickest solution to reconnecting.

It would be nice if it would do this on its own, but to this day it will not.

My Macbook Pro is set up as a desktop replacement here in my office, so I take it home every night, and come into my office the next day and reconnect to my monitor, keyboard, etc., and I where I have the ScanSnap placed is not condusive to using the USB cable.

This totally solved my problem also. I agree it should be automatic.

Does anyone have a solution to this? I can see the "connect by wifi" option but the device is not listed in there. Also, the device is not listed in the app. It seems the scanner just stopped showing itself on the network. The light is blue however, and I've gone through the wizard many times now to reset settings. I don't know what to do at this point. Please help!!

Not sure if this was your problem, but with OS X El Capitan, I could not get the WiFI Connectivity to work at all, at first. Eventually, I was able to solve it (after some advice from a friend) by changing my Wireless Network (Airport) to have a separate network name for the 5 GHz network. Not completely sure why that matters, but my guess is that the ScanSnap was developed before 5 GHz networks were around. Kind of annoying, but it works perfectly now.

Hi,


I am on El Capitan too and have worked through everything suggested here and absolutely no luck.


My IT skills are OK but "changing my wireless network" is beyond me. The MAC is at home and we only have one network. If anyone could clearly set out how to wirelessly connect from IX500 to OS X El Capitan I would be very grateful.

Hi Ed,


The specific instructions will depend on the type of router that you have. If you have an Apple Airport (Express or Extreme), for example, you'd run the Airport Utility application on your Mac or iOS device, connect to your router, and choose the option to give your 5 GHz network a different name than your non-5 GHz network. Other routers will have a different way to access them, though usually they are accessed by going to an ip address such as 192.168.101.1 and entering a password in your web browser. I'd suggest referring to the instructions that came with your router for more details but I may be able to provide more specific instructions if this is not helpful enough. I hope this helps!

Thanks very much for coming back. I realise now I am on a macbook thread and not an iMac one, which is what I have (I guess the clue was in the name, sorry, this was the thread I reached when googling how to solve!). So in answer to tour question I am pretty sure it doesn't have any airport apps but def does have a 192 type IP address. If there is any help anyone can give before I move to the correct forum again it would be greatly appreciated.


Btw Fujitsu helpdesk have just come back and it certainly looks a common issue that is not a simple fix. So failing a solution if anyone knows of a similar scanner that definitely works with an iMac also be appreciated.

I don't have an iMac, but my understanding of the problem is that it is not specific to the type of Mac you have. I can't say for certain since I don't have an iMac to confirm with, though. So, my suggestion would be for you to determine what type of WiFi router you have (i.e Apple Airport, Linksys, Asus, etc.) The Wifi Router is the physical device that is providing the WiFi network at your house/apartment/location. Or if you are on Comcast, your Comcast cable modem may also be providing the WiFi network. The next steps to update the router will be completely dependent on the type of router that you have.


Your best option may be to find a very IT inclined friend and ask them to update your router settings for you if this feels overwhelming. I don't know if this will solve the issue for you but it definitely solved it for me.

It doesn't look like you have the same problem as me. It sounds like yours connect and then disconnect. Whereas mine does not connect at all or at least not that I can tell.


Essentially my wifi light turns blue just fine after setup but the scansnap client software from the mac never seens it. Not even one second. I'll try pushing the WPS button but I doubt that changes anything

Hi,

Here's my work around for having the network connection get dropped using the Scansnap ix500. I had this problem too, with a Macbook Pro and running El Capitan 10.11.4. I called Tech support and two different agents tried to help me, but unfortunately without success. The workaround my husband figured out that works for me is as follows. Go into Scansnap Manager, Preferences, Power, and select Power off after "Never." Now true, I'll use some more energy, but I can scan again without pulling my hair out having the scanner disconnect from the network every few minutes!


Now, I haven't rebooted yet, so don't know if it will hold, but at least for the last 2 hours the setting has held and not gone offline.
