iPad 2 VPN access with iOS 7.1

I updated one of my iPads to iOS 7.1. The upgrade went smoothly but now when I connect to a VPN service (strongvpn) the performance is terrible and I can no longer stream videos through the VPN. My other iPad which I have not updated yet continues to work fine with the VPN as does my iPhone 4s which has also been updated to 7.1. I have used the ookla speed test and get about a 40Mb/s download speed when not connected to the VPN this drops to under 1Mb/s when I run the test after I connect to the VPN . The other iPad and iPhone get about 12Mb/s download speed via the VPN.

I have tried turning off other features like cellular data, Bluetooth etc but nothing changes. I even went so far as to completely reset the iPad and start from scratch but whatever I try I cannot get any improvement in the download speed when connected through the VPN so streaming video is impossible.

I have been in contact with Strongvpn but they have no idea what is going on. All my other devices continue to perform well - just this iPad since it was updated.

Has anyone else who uses Strongvprn successfully updated their iPad 2 without issue?

Thanks in advance for any tips or feedback

I have the same issue with my VPN on my iPad 2. I called Apple and didn't get charged the $19 even though my iPad is out of it's warranty because it's a software issue. If any of you do call Apple don't let them fob you off with it's the VPN providers. I did but they haven't heard the last from me! I have done everything that has been mentioned by others in this thread and non of it worked. I have been a customer of Apple for about 20 years having spent thousands on iMacs, iPods, Apple TV, iPhones, etc, and have to say that this maybe the end of the road for me.

This is good eddie.

As a former Head of Technical Services in a national organisation, I can say that all customers (Corporate or Private) respect a company (Apple) who treats customers with due repect and urgency when their products fall short of expectations.

Personally I think that expecting your customer to "Pay" for the opportunity to give you valuable feedback on your quality problem, is not a quick path to resolving quality issues and only leaves them feeling dissatisfied (why should they pay ??), because they are giving you valuable information - in your own interest for product development.

Invite constructive criticism - Value it and take to the top decison and development levels.

As one of thousands of VPN user on iPad this problem is highly significant

We want you guys to stay at the cutting edge, and Quality Assurance Systems (testing of software updates before release) and quickly resolving issues that have arisen. THESE ARE HIGH VALUE ADDED ITEMS when the decision is taken on purchases.

Put these systems in place and Audit Them and your reputation will be enhanced by end user satisfaction.

Is there a method of "Going Back to An Earlier Date" to set back the previous version, similar to what is provided in Windows.??

It is simply folly and crazy not to allow users/customers this basic option to do this, it should be Very Easy to provide. We would then have an easy way to use the iPad in its prior to update state. Let us have a response from you please Apple. ?

This would take the heat out of unresolved issues when updates have been issued but have Bugs, and keep everyone happy with the basic courtesy of Choice.

Well, still no update from Apple:(( Very disappointed that this issue has not been addressed yet. I've trolled the net but can't seem to find any other topics on this issue apart from this one. There must be thousands of people having issues with this bug.

Even sent a tweet to their CEO,https://twitter.com/eddie_oneill/status/446289756029452288

No response. I guess that indicates Apple's commitment to their customers. At the very least they should give their customers an indication of when a fix will be available.

I have worked in the Comms and IT industry for over 30 years and one thing I do know is how much customers appreciate feedback, even if it's not that positive. At least keep the communication channels open, let us know what is happening.

A very frustrated Apple customer for now, maybe not much longer at this rate:(((

Hello All!

I'm the first to admit if I have done something wrong - in that case I have - My issue has been resolved, the fix for me was to update my VPN settings from my provider on the iPad 2 [in this case tunnel bear] - Once installed my UL and DL speeds were actually better than before - Egg on the chin.

Hope every one else can maybe try the same type of fix and utopia will be restored in your lives soon!

Kind Regards,

The Borg.
