iOS 7.1 lock screen freeze issue

Issue started when I upgraded the phone to iOS 7. My iPhone 5 started freezing at the lock screen from time to time. I can pull down/up the notification/control center if it is enabled but cannot press or select anything. Pressing the home button will invoke Siri but if you ask to call someone or open an App it will ask to unlock iPhone first and will display the keypad but you cannot press any numbers. Only resolution I could find for this is to reboot the phone. My 2 friends, one using an iPhone 4S and another using an iPhone5, has reported similar issue. This clearly explains it is a software bug and not a hardware one.

Even with each minor update upto iOS 7.0.6 did not give any fix for this issue. And yesterday I installed the latest version of iOS, i.e 7.1 and I am quite dissappointed to say that apple has ignored all their users complaints. The issue still exists in 7.1. I do not understand how a company like Apple can simply ignore such an embarrassing bug that causes their phone to freeze at the lock screen. Such a shame apple. Such a shame.

A very easy fix..

Press and hold the home button to activate Siri.

Ask Siri to call one of your contacts.

Once the phone app opens up.. just tap on End call button.

You will be back in the lock screen but not in frozen state this time.

This is just a temporary fix to come out of the frozen lock screen and you need to have Siri enabled while screen is locked.

This has worked all the times for me.

Ok now here i got a permanent solution for my iphone 4S running ios 7.1.1. I tried two methods.

By backing up the iphone and erasing it.

After making a backup to itunes and then erasing it and again restoring the back up data (C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup) my iphone showed the same freezing issue after few hours. I could get rid of it either using siri, restarting or by taking an incoming call. I tried this method after reading in these forums and as recommended by apple.

Erase the iphone and setup as a new phone.

First make a backup in case if the lockscreen freeze still persists after trying this method you can restore the data and wait for apple to release a fixed version. And now erase your iphone and setup as a new phone. When it asks to restore from backup, never do this. The phone now has everything restored like it was brought from the store running updated os 7.1.1. And yes all your datas washed up! Start everything from the begining.

After this i suspect that updating from 7.1 or what ever that it came when i brought to ios 7.1.1 made some corrupt data which led to lockscreen freezing. All my 31 apps were re-installed (including real racing 3, dead trigger, third party apps like ebay, facebook, twitter, etc) but lost its datas and were running as if just installed it newly. You can also backup this new backup to the older backup. I am running on wifi only and all my location, internet, siri, icloud are disabled to give maximum battery life. Its been 30 hours after i post this message and so far so good and no lockscreen freeze. Will keep updated if happens! 😟
