When a company denies claims that there is a problem with their operating system, updates, hardware, etc., the only way to get their attention is with mass spam postings on all forums and tweets. If it gets big enough you will see national TV pick up the report. Then and only then is when they respond. I've been a tech since the first PC and Apple operating systems. We are all paying beta testers of their products. They release an almost perfect product, we purchase it and report back the problems that are left.

My main beef is Apple should allow downgrading, like Microsoft, Google, Red Hat, etc..

Providing the hardware supports it, you can format your PC to pretty much any Windows version, you can flash your Android to pretty much any firmware and you can install pretty much any version of Linux on your computer. So why does Apple block it?

Just got off the phone with Apple support the solution for me was my dLink router security settings. Ios 7.1 needs WPA 2 or WPA auto. A second level support guy talked me through resetting my dlink router. My four Apple devices, all out of warranty aree now working again. A non Apple product was the problem and support was at no charge. @Tim Cook should be proud of his support team.

Thanks earlin2000 --- your solution for disabling WMM mode seems to have worked for me as well.

I'm using an iPad 3 16gb wifi and StrongVPN

With WMM mode enabled using the VPN I was getting speeds of .3 Mbps download and .2 Mbps upload.

With WMM mode disabled using the VPN I am now getting up to 5 Mbps download and 1.5 Mbps upload.

Not using the VPN, I get 26Mbps download and 10Mbps upload using an N-router (http://www.hitrontech.com/en/cable_detail.php?id=10 )and my cable service provides 100Mbps down and 10Mbps up, just for reference...

Hopefully, though there will be some guidance from Apple on this to fully resolve this issue, as I believe the VPN performance can be improved.

Thanks to everyone who has posted thoughts and potential solutions. I'm using the StrongVPN service on both my MacBook and my iPad 2. The VPN service works without any performance issues on the MacBook, but post the IOS 7.1 upgrade my iPad 2 download and upload speeds are limited to <1Mbps (without VPN download is 20Mbps and upload is 6Mbps).

Given my VPN service, Service Provider, Router configuration all remain constant, the only variable being VPN access via MacBook or iPad,in have to conclude this remains an iPad IOS 7.1 issue.

I'd be grateful if Apple could look into this without further delay...

Thanks one and all...
