Phone keeps saying "iPhone could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached"

One possible solution!!!

The error message is wrong!

After reading another post elsewhere, I tried removing the SIM card, switching on the phone and connecting to iTunes. When I saw the "No SIM installed" message on the phone, I re-installed the card and hey presto! The phone was activated in under two minutes!

So beware of Apple's error messages, they may not be what they seem.

try buying the activation screen bypass sim from ebay to activate iphone. for eg. if your iphone is verizon buy the verizon sim, same with the at&t and so on.

You might have to try from another Wi-Fi or restore. See the info below.

Resolution

Perform the following steps if you receive one of the messages above:

1. Restart the iPhone.
2. Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
   • Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
   • Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
3. Restore the iPhone.

If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

i'm facing exactly the same problem!

i factory reset my iphone 5s and from then it's not activating! i'm trying again and again but every time i try it says the activation server cannot be reached!

what type of problem it is? may i have a solution pls?

Do you have Find My iPhone enabled? If so, go to settings - iPhone and turn off "Find My iPhone". See if you can then install your new SIM card. After installation, you can turn "Find My iPhone" back on. if so desired.

Check in settings - iCloud and see if you have "Find My iPhone" enabled. If so, turn it off. You may have to remove your SIM card before you can use your iPhone to do this. After you have then installed your SIM card, you can go back and turn back on "Find My iPhone" if you want this feature.

That's a solution if the phone is SIM-locked, or displays the message "Please insert a SIM." It is not a solution for "Activation Server cannot be reached."
