CarPlay on 2014 Honda Civic EX?

I have a 2014 Honda Civic EX, which is listed as one of the carplay enabled vehicles... However I can not figure out how to get the carplay features to show up on my in-dash screen. I installed the apple update and I'm using the HDMI/USB splitter cable made by apple and sold to me directly from Honda for $100.

I also checked my phone settings to make sure carplay wasn't restricted.

Help please! HondaLink blows!

Thanks Anthony,

Good to hear on the charging bit.

Just test drove the Accord yesterday and really liked it. Plus dealer gave me great offer on my current '02 Civic and awesome price on the '14 model. It was hard to say no but, as I keep my cars 8+ years and am a techie, it would be silly not to wait and see.

Hoping 'soon' will be days/weeks rather than at WWDC...

Don't hold your breath on the Accord. Honda leaves the Accord last for any feature enhancements over other models. It took years for Honda to add USB to the Accord, when other models already had it for years. So you might see CarPlay in the Accord in a few years.

I've got to believe that if the 2015 Hyundai Sonata can have Carplay then surely the 2015 Accord will as well. They've had a year to play with the touchscreen for the Civic and now would be as good a time as any to roll that into a premium model such as the Accord. I just hope they've learned that a touchscreen-only implementation is not ideal and a few buttons can go a long way towards making the system work better.

Don't hold your breath. I have driven an Accord for 10 years and followed the Accord and other Honda models. The Accord may be a premium model, but it seems to be Honda's "orphaned child" because they neglect it and roll out new features to all other models. It took YEARS for Honda to add USB when other models had it for years. Other models had rear cameras with the Navi, but the Accord took years to get one. If the Accord is a premium model, why is the Civic getting CarPlay first? Makes you wonder! I agree with you about touchscreen-only vehicle components. They are not ideal in vehicles. I bought the 2013 Civic EX-L Coupe with Navi to replace my 2003 Accord Coupe and I prefer a selection of physical buttons combined with some touchscreen functionality on the stereo. I do not like the new DisplayAudio stereo which has zero buttons.

Response from Honda to my most recent inquiry:

"When will Honda Canada install Apple's Carplay onto its current Civic 2014

models" ? It only requires a firmware upgrade but it seems that Honda is

too cheap to put their money in it. I feel left out by Honda. Maybe it

sounds stupid from your point of view but I almost bought the 2014 model

only for that!

Good afternoon Mr. Lefebvre,

Thank you for contacting Honda Canada.

In regards to your inquiry about Apple's Carplay feature, Apple announced

that they are working closely with six auto manufacturers to add Apple's

CarPlay to the in-car experience, and Honda is one of the six

manufacturers listed.

Connectivity is a must have capability for our customers and we are working

with Apple to be on the forefront of this next generation technology. Honda

continues to pioneer technologies that seamlessly and intuitively integrate

the power and functionality of a customers’ smartphone directly into their

vehicle.

Honda has not announced which vehicles will include CarPlay technology, nor

the date of their release, but such information will become available in

the near future.

We thank you again for taking the time to contact Honda Canada, and

allowing us the opportunity to respond.

Yours very truly,

HONDA CANADA Inc.

I called Honda US a couple of months ago (October '14) to ask when CarPlay would be available, at least in the Accord hybrid I'm planning to get. They said they don't know.

I told my local Honda dealer I'd be in to buy a car from him as soon as Honda implements CarPlay in the Accord hybrid, and not before. I suspect Honda US is more responsive to urging from dealerships than from individual consumers. Just saying.

Let's not forget that they explicitly stated on the CarPlay website in March 2014 that 2014 Honda models would have it. This was taken using the "way back machine" at this address.... They later changed it, but I bought the car hugely based on the photo and this text! I would have taken the LX instead!

I tried but failed to set up Carplay between the iPhone 5S and 2016 Honda Civic initially. Upon further investigation, I came to realize that one must go to the "Setting" screen, "Enable" Carplay after you plug in the iPhone. You must enable "Siri" to make Carplay to work as well. My issues were "not enabled" and "Siri" was turned off. Once I enabled and turned on Siri, Carplay automatically showed up when my iPhone 5S was connected to the civic via USB connection. Hope this help.
