Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Since I have downloaded ios 7.1, any newly downloaded word or powerpoint document will download but not open. It just goes to a gray screen with the filename listed, and nothing else. Has anyone else seen this problem?

I am seeing the same problem. The native iOS app does not open the file. It works with my iOS 7.0 and iOS 6 devices.
Have you contacted Apple service? I was on a chat with them and they had not heard of the problem. The only suggestion they had was to delete my mail account and set it up again. I have not done this yet.
I've removed/re-added email as you've suggested. I'm still unable to open the PPT.

We've compared two other co-workers with an iPhone 5s.
iOS - 7.0.4...does open PPT
iOS - 7.0.6...does not open PPT
Looks like the issue has been occuring at least since 7.0.6. Be curious to see if others are experiencing the same issue and what the resolution is.

I have the same issue with my iphone 5 + ios7.1.... A very limiting bug.... Hoping Apple react immediately....
Just found the secret in a different post. It is now a 2 step process. You must go to the very bottom of the email and click "download the full message". Then click the attachment. I tried this with 2 different documents and all worked fine.

I am running version 7.1 and I have tried the two-step method, but have a new problem now:
The file/attachment dissappears and the message left in its place:
"(See attached file: XXX.pptx)"
Any suggestions?
For some reason i dont see " download the full message" at the bottom of the email 😕
when i click on the email it download the full message with the attachments
i cannot open .doc .xls files
where did the " download the full message" has gone ???
I'm having same problem. Can't open PowerPoint or Word doc and there is no option to download full message. After selecting the document besides the doc title it states "Office Open XML word processing document". I am able to view the files if I use safari to view my email.
What if i don't need full message but only a 50kb file of a 10mb message on a 3g network?
Happens pretty often for me, premium apple devices require for additional traffic fees?)

I should have looked on Apple support earlier. I could have saved myself hours trying to find out why something that used to work didn't anymore.
Hi - make sure you have downloaded all the content of the email - often with attachments in IOS7 there is a link at the very bottom of the email asking you if you want to download all the content -do this and the Word.docs should open
