iPhone 5s, iOS 7.1
Hello everybody,
I had the same issue in my iPhone 5 after updating to iOS 7.1.1.
There is not a permanent solution to this.
The temporary one is to log-out from the App Store and reboot the phone.
It's obviously a "bug" of iOS 7.x.x because in iOS 6.x it never happened.
Don't waste time in restoring the system, it doesn't help. Just do what I wrote above.
Is it fixed in iOS 7.1.2?
I got the same problem when I updated to iOS 7.1.1.
I've just updated again to iOS 7.1.2 and the problem is fixed.
(settings -> general -> software update)
I Have a iPad Air and a iPhone 4S and this same thing is happening to me too. It's really annoying and using up my internet.
I upgraded to 7.1.2 and the problem has gotten worse. 😟
I just updated to IOS 7.1.2 from 7.0.2. This bug is still around.
It shows up only at the homescreen. Doesn't show within any apps or settings.
It appears to have only shown up for me once I updated to 7.1.2. I've logged out of app store and restarted and it appears to be working properly for now but it would be nice if there was something on the phone that would show me what apps are running despite having closed out of all of them.
I have the same issue.
iPhone 5s, ios7.1.1.
I have background data off, and appstore automatic updates off, but still I keep seeing the network activity sign.
I'll try and track down data usage to see if it's something.
The problem is not fixed in 7.1.2. I've 5S and iPad Air running 7.1.2. On earlier versions I use to restart my devices. To avoid restarting I JB my iPad. The only solution which works temporarily for me is to turn off WiFi and Re-springing. Then turn WiFi back on. At least until you access App Store this works. Hope Apple fixes this issue.
I've exactly the same issue with my iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1.2. (background data off, and appstore automatic updates off). A temporary solution for me is to reset the network settings.
Hi I had the same issue, after searching google i found my way here.
My problem was created as follows
- I clicked to install an app from the app store
- hit cancel
- spinning network wheel wont go away on home screen
SOLUTION
I was able to fix this by going to that app which i initially cancelled and actually go ahead and install the app. After the app was fully installed the network wheel went away. I deleted the app and the network wheel remained off.

This fixed it for me. iOS 7.1.2 on iPad Mini Retina
Simple solution that I read on another post and worked for me is Hard reset..
Just Click and hold the Home Button and the Power button simultaneously till the iPhone screen turns black...
