Pop up for Free Upgrade to Mavericks

It has to be a scam. Apple does not use third-party firms or sites to notify you of upgrades.

It is certainly not a scam. Apple prompts customers to upgrade to Mavericks (because, after all, it's free -- why wouldn't anyone want to upgrade?).

I don't want to update to Mavericks on some machines, and I'd like to know how to disable this 'feature'. I was excited when I saw shld42thewheel's post about a checkbox in the App Store. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it.

Where do you see me talking about a checkbox in this thread? I'm confused as to what you are asking about.

The Pop-up is a SCAM. Do not respond to things in pop-ups, EVER. When you click Download, you will receive an extra big helping of malware for your effort.

There is indeed a "Free Upgrade to Mavericks". Be sure you use the Mac App Store Application to get it, not any broswer or email link, EVER.

Contrary to Grant Bennet-Adler's and Allan Jones' opinions, the popup is NOT a scam. It is the result of a "new feature" that was installed by Apple with the Mac App Store Update Version 1.0. If you have installed this update, go to your primary hard drive's

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CommerceKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/

folder and you will find a recently installed Noticeboard.app.

While your search may have come up empty, I think you did not try reading the threads I linked to in my prior post here, especially the first link, because that particular thread references noticeboard and the App Store upgrade. Hope this helps.

My 2012 MBP has a fully updated and clean install of Mavericks. When I go to the path you show, there is no noticeboard.app anywhere. I don't doubt it's there on your computer but I suspect it came as some unwanted cr@pware that places like CNET and Softonic are bundling with another download.
