Create AAC version grayed out iTunes 11

Did you ever figure this out? I just spent quite awhile and finally figured it out....mine was greyed out as well, but I have a solution if you still need one....I know it has been a long time but just thought I would ask.

Then why not simply post the solution since tithe original poster ha not been here in 19 months?

I Discovered I couldnt create the AAC version as I was trying to do if I tried to create it on the version of the song that was in a playlist. I had to actually find the original file in the music tab and then the "create AAC" was no longer greyed out And I was able to to charge the AAC version.

I had this problem TODAY, and so, I'm sure, have many other people.

But you didn't listen to the original poster saying that the AAC/MP3 option WAS GREYED OUT and went on and on about preferences and what to right-click on, and rambling on about how there was no problem. Ignoring the fact the the poster kept telling you step 4 WAS NOT AVAILABLE as an option. The settings were all correct, but the option wasn't available from the right-click or File menu. Why?

So here is the answer, which I found on my own, but which I could have found here if not for your rude replies turning me off before I got to StuBlack's reply. He was trying to do step 4 on a song that was IN iCLOUD. Since there was no local copy of the file, step 4 wasn't available. Simply clicking on the little cloud icon next to the song to download it locally is all I (and he) needed to do to suddenly make those options available.

The last two lines of your reply are rudeness personified. And yes, it is an issue if your goal is to help people. Because you were both dismissing what he (and I) said, missing the actual solution because of that, and because your attitude drives away those who might otherwise skim through the thread and actually find the solution.

The proper response would have been some version of "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I'll be more careful next time."

The poster simply reposted the same thing from a year earlier was rude.

Hey there! If you are still looking for a possible solution to "Convert AAC Verison" being greyed out: try holding down the OPTION key when in the menu pull down showing that option.

Sometimes I want to extract the audio clip from a video file. When the video file is selected typically that option in the pulldown is greyed out. If you hold down the OPTION key "Convert AAC Verison" becomes a regular selection and you can now select it to convert to AAC. It's a great trick with YouTube video you only need the audio from.
