My iPhone 5 keeps displaying the message "This accessory may not be supported" whenever I charge my phone. Then it stops charging after a couple of minutes, any idea on how to fix it?

What brand is this charger?

Is it a wall charger, a car charger or a chord from your laptop?

Be more specific please 🙂

I've had my iPhone 5s for almost 2 years and NEVER had a problem...since updating to the most recent IOS 9 and have problems charging in our vehicles. We just updated my husbands phone to the same type and he has had constant problems charging from the computer/wall/car and if we can't find a solution he will be returning the phone. Have you actually found out the problem? I suspect it is a software upgrade problem as all our cords and chargers are from apple and never had a problem until the last couple of weeks.

EEverything has been cleaned well. 1 phone still works on most chargers other than our truck charger the brand new phone isn't charging from the macbook or the truck but charges from the wall. Very frustrating. The one that still charges on everything except the truck (which it use to charge on just fine) has only started having problems since I updated to IOS 9

First, Apple does make car adapters; we bought ours directly from the Apple store, and they have worked flawlessly. It's a little gray cylinder. We had the "non support" problem awhile back with an adapter that we bought NEW, and that Verizon sold us WITH the iPhone, so we assumed it was Apple-approved. We were wrong; it was not.I was miffed at Verizon but perhaps they did'nt know. For awhile it worked perfectly, but just as with this reported incident, after an iOS update, we suddenly received that message of "may not support," and we couldn't get it to charge. So from then on, we bought our accessories DIRECTLY from Apple, either at the local Apple store or via the Apple Store online. We'll never again buy accessories from a phone store, for Veirzon themselves sold us the bad one. We usually receive the accessories from Apple with 2 days, via FedEx. If this doesn't help you, sorry, but I had to share becaues we were SO sure ours was an Apple charger since Verizon sold it with the then-new iPhone 5s. But it was not directly from Apple, Hope you get a resolution.
