Hi Kigali,

enough Ram, enough disk space.

1. you can delete the Amazon extension in Safari: you can add to the wish list without that extension.

2. you had CleanMyMac on your mac, there are still remnants. What dis you use it for?, did you remove languages? Did you remove binaries? both answers are important.

3. You had Ouc. not completely uninstalled.

4. You have to remove all entries in SystemPreferences/Accounts&Groups/LoginItems (with the minus sign underneath). This does not uninstall anything just makes that you have to start the apps by hand.

5. We get a few things to remove now:

--Go to yourname /Library /LaunchAgents folder and delete com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.helperTool.plist

If it is it not there look in MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchAgents folder.

--In MacintoshHD /Library/StartUpItems folder delete HWPortDetect and HWNetMgr

Now restart, empty the Trash bin.

Answer the questions in point 2: important for how to proceed.

ok, finished running diskutility, restart and empty trash.

I still see two com.adobe...... items but am unable to find them to delete?

Certainly feels much faster at this stage! Really appreciate your assistance. My wife will be thrilled so thanks for sticking with me on the step by step.

1. Normally good and honest apps have their own uninstaller, that should do it. Apps from the Appstore either have an uninstaller, read the help files, or can be dragged to the Trash.

If there is no uninstaller to find, and/or the App is from dubious origin, you can use Appcleaner.

2. Advice: allways download apps from the devlopers sites, never from sites as download.com, or cnet.com, or other "bulk" sites: often there are trackers built-in in those sites...

3. And another advice: do never use socalled torrent apps (uTorrent, Bittorrent and so on), and certainly not download apps with that (crippling like CoreKeygen use). These torrent apps have to publish your IP address and other info in order to be able to do the downloads.

4. And still another advice: read about safety: thesafemac.com from a trusted contributor in this forum.

Happy?

KigaliQT wrote:

should we always use the appcleaner program to remove other programs in the future?

I'd like to jump in here and say that you should always check with the developer first for the proper way to uninstall their software. Only they really know where everything is. The only thing AppCleaner knows is the name of the software and usually the developer's name, so it searches what it is allowed to see of your hard drive and pulls those files, as well. Two potential problems with this:

1) There can be files that support more than one application from the same developer. Adobe comes to mind here. Removing shared files can cripple those other applications.

2) Many applications install files with names that are not associated with the app or the developer. Those files will not be found. Malware installations almost always resort to such tactics. ClamXav installs a scan engine from ClamAV® that will not be found by AppCleaner.

If the developer does not provide an un-installer or at least instructions, then the use of utilities such as AppCleaner can be useful, but use care as there is still the possibility of problem 1). A third way is to use a utility such as EasyFind or Find Any File to search for app and developer names. Either will do a better job of locating such files than either Spotlight or the Finder.
