Apple TV - Radio Stations

My Apple TV stopped playing radio stations a few days ago. Now all i see is the message "Loading Internet Radio Stations" but nothing happens. My Network is fine, Internet is fine, not sure what's happening. Help please.

In order to have the INTERNET button in you itunes menu (ver 11.1.5)

go to the itunes preferences. top of the options see "SHOW" / click on the tab for "Internet Radio"

the internet button will now show in your itunes library when viewing your music.

click on the internet menu tab. choose a station and it will play. drag it to the right and add it to a new playlist ( I named it My Radio)

when I sync itunes with apple TV gen 1 - the stations are in my radio playlist

in itunes preferences/ Aple TV check to seee whether you have unchecked "prevent ATV from syncing automatically"

hope this helps. I am using macbookpro 10.8.5

Hi capecodmama, and thanks for chiming in.

Unfortunately, I already had the "Internet Radio" checkbox already checked, but a great idea to confirm.

No this lack of internet radio on 1st & 2nd gen. AppleTVs is something Apple did 3/26, and only Apple can fix it.

I'm in a particular pickel, because the latest and greatest model only uses HDMI, not componant which has allowed me to interface it with the rest of my home using a 4x4 AV matric mixer. If I have to go the HDMI route, I will have to buy an 8x8 mixer for many $$$.

I sure hope they do get it fixed!

Hello again capecodmama,

I apologize that I thought I had read your entire post via the email sent me until after I replied, and read your's again and realized you had additionally suggested checking "in itunes preferences/ Aple TV check to seee whether you have unchecked "prevent ATV from syncing automatically". Well... I didn't, and after selecting it, rebooting iTunes and even rebooting the AppleTV, it still didn’t show up.

I can't imagine what the difference is. We're both using the same OS and iTunes on a 1st gen. AppleTV. You can get a "Internet Radio" playlist to showup in your alphabetical list of playlists on your 1st gen. AppleTV, and mine will NOT show up.

In my case, I have to wait 5 minutes every time I turn on AppleTV to my "Shared Library" as there are some 52K tunes in the lib accessed through a NAS storage device, so your discovery is really nice, but it is only a temporary work around for those who can get it to work.

I can't! :-(

It seems as though transferring through iTunes is the only solution at the moment. Thanks to whoever came up with this temporary fix. Although through my emails with Apple tech support I think this might be a permanent one since they keep responding with the same idiotic answers. Additionally, performing a factory reset is also not a solution since that just wipes out ALL radio stations.

Thanks again.

itunes ver 11.1.5

open up Itunes. under the main heading of "itunes" on the upper left of your screen/ scroll down to preferences

choose "General" on the top header.

There are various items under the side heading of "SHOW"

put a check next to INTERNET RADIO

you may have to close itunes and reopen

you should then see the INTERNET as one of the top tabs in the main menu when you are viewing your MUSIC in your library

Dear capecodmama,

I have received several new posts to this thread, and I think it's time to reconfirm exactly what isn't working with what version of the OS one runs not to mention iTunes and with what genheration of AppleTV. I maintain as of 3/26 Apple did something to stop 1st & 2nd gen. AppleTVs to cease to be able to access internet radio

Despite the success you have had with discovering a work around for a 1st gen. AppleTV and the current iTunes 11.1.5, and more importantly, OS ML 10.8.5 (And now evidently with 10.9.2 according to ROBERT MORAN2) I can't replicate your experience as now others successfully have! I'd love to post screen shots of my Prefs to prove I have them set properly, but this list won't accept attachments.

The only thing I can think of that I haven't done is de-install my AppleTV, and reinstall. Maybe that will set some bit differently so that your work around will work for me too, but if Gilmarriner's worst fears are true, I've got big troubles, and so does anyone else with a large iTunes collection who also likes to use internet radio.

I have the same problem with internet radio not working on my 1st generation Apple TV, running 3.0.2. Another problem that appears new, when attempting to play HD movie trailers, I get the following message, "This video cannot be played because its format is not compatible with Apple TV." I am using an early 2009 Mac Pro with 10.9.2 & iTunes 11.1.5. The playlist work around did not work for me, so I have no internet radio. My Apple TV is my living room hub, hooked up to my TV & home stereo system which plays music for the whole house.

Other things I did on the Apple TV that may have contributed to this problems: I checked for updates & also for downloads. Its possible that if Apple wanted to spike internet radio & HD previews, it maybe could have been done from those actions, or possibly even transparently. I'm surpirsed Apple has left the Youtube internet option, but certainly hasnt made any recent software updates that would enhance our experience.

I submitted feedback to Apple TV & iTunes, since these changes seem to have occurred about the same time as the latest iTunes update. If iTunes update broke Apple TV, I will be reluctant to trust future updates.

The radio stations can not be accessed in the manner we did prior to 3/26 on ATV Gen 1 which was directly via ATV under the Internet Radio.

Apple did something (whether intentional or not to stop the stream directly from ATV. Whether the timing Was directly related to the last iTunes update, I can not say.

When I did create the radio stations in a playlist, I did not reboot my ATV nor did

I perform a restore.

On your ATV when you scroll to Internet/ Radio

And choose radio what do you see?

I see Radio/ now playing / categories/ Playlists / Adult Contporary and

A list of radion station genres.

If I choose one of the genres - no internet radio stations will load.

The radio stations that I have added to the new playlist ( in iTunes on Mac)

Will infact begin to play continuously.

I don't know what else to tell you.
