Apple TV - Radio Stations

My Apple TV stopped playing radio stations a few days ago. Now all i see is the message "Loading Internet Radio Stations" but nothing happens. My Network is fine, Internet is fine, not sure what's happening. Help please.

Apple TV, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Dear capecodmama,

Thank you for your continued help and interest.

RE: "The radio stations can not be accessed in the manner we did prior to 3/26 on ATV Gen 1 which was directly via ATV under the Internet Radio."

I understand that's what I'm faced with today through your discovery (Work around) to create a internet radio playlist. I sure hope this is NOT the permanent fix.

RE: "On your ATV when you scroll to Internet/ Radio

And choose radio what do you see?

I see Radio/ now playing / categories/ Playlists / Adult Contporary and

A list of radion station genres.

If I choose one of the genres - no internet radio stations will load.

The radio stations that I have added to the new playlist ( in iTunes on Mac)

Will infact begin to play continuously.

I don't know what else to tell you."

I have followed each of your steps to create the new iTunes Internet Radio playlist, which does show up in iTunes on my Mac Mini and will play internet radio FROM ONLY iTunes to the output of the Mac Mini speakers... not my 1st gen. AppleTV.

On my AppleTV, on it's home page where I choose what programming I want via the next to the far right hand selection remains called "Internet." Upon selection, I get two options... You Tube and Radio. (It used to say "Internet Radio")

Upon selecting this "Radio" selection, as has been recounted from many here, it will briefly flash that it is loading internet radio, but then disappears and the work "Radio" is all that is left. Upon selection, all I get is an AppleTV system beep that I have pressed a button. NOTHING HAPPENS AFTER THAT!

Now I'm confused about your recommendation for a work around, as your instructions completely changed from yesterday.

You advised that you discovered a work around to regain internet radio on the AppleTV by making and loading a new "Internet Radio" playlist from the iTunes App associated with the AppleTV. In my case, that's my Mac Mini. (A minor clarification: if using a "Shared Lib" on AppleTV gen. 1, the computer associated with that AppleTV does have to be running. My music lib is 2.3 TB large, and obviously will not be able to be loaded on a 160 GB AppleTV internal HD. That's why I have to use a "shared lib.")

You then clearly explained that to regain internet radio on our gen. 1 AppleTVs, we had to access this new "Internet Radio" playlist, not the top menu of the AppleTV as you now state, but from the loaded "shared Lib." Well, it does not show up in my list of some 100 playlists. They are loaded alphabetically, and it's simply not there.

Now I'll stop here to hear back from you about which way you have done this, because your instructions have completely changed, and now

contradictory.

I sure do appreciate your help, and hopefully, between the two of us, I can at least get my most favorite internet radio stations temporally back.

Thank you again!

Hi capecodmama.

I just had to come on and thank you for your discovery. Not only does it provide a fix for the Internet radio, but through the use of a playlist, it provides me with the ability to turn on my Atv, my AV receiver, select the 'radio' playlist via my remote app on my Ipod and I'm off listening. No need to turn on the tv. Something I was wishing for. Brilliant.

Some good from the bad thanks to you. 🙂

Dear FastmarcJa,

How kind of you to chime in with another idea.

RE: "Let me see if I can help.

Did you sync the Atv after you created the playlist? After syncing it should show up in radio, under categories at the top."

Yes, I synced it, and today even reinstalled the AppleTV with my Mini's iTunes, but still no banana.

There is something between you and Capecodmama's advice that I do not understand.

If a new "Internet Radio" playlist is made in the iTunes App that the AppleTV is mated to, then that playlist should only show up when I access my shared lib in AppleTV... not under the AppleTV's home page under Internet... I would think. But that isn't the way you two are explaining it.

In any event, I don't end up, on AppleTV, with either my new iTunes created "Internet Radio" playlist, nor does it show up under Internet/Radio. I have YouTube that still works fine, but if you select "Radio," it just sits there.

This problem is becoming quite humbling as several here have stated that they can get

Capecodmama's work around to work, and some can't.

I see now that you are experiencing another peculiarity in that Atv can't find your mated iTunes? I'm sure you already know this, but the mated machine with iTunes has to be on. If it's still properly mated, then in Atv, you must already know you have to select "Shared Music, pictures, videos, etc to actually load them.

Hope you get it back soon, and that something I've said above gives you or someone an idea of why I can't perform this work around.

Thanks,

George

Hey George,

I'm sorry it's still not working out for you. Your problem seems to differ slightly from mine and what others here that have chimed in so far are experiencing. I think we all could get into radio and see the stations with various categories, but clicking on them would take you no where. From what you are saying, you can't get into radio at all, in which case the playlist fix won't work.

For what it's worth, the Atv 'radio' playlist I created also shows up in the remote app for the Atv on my ipod, so I can play it straight from there. If you have that app on an Ipod or ipad, see if you can access it through that.

If not, hopefully someone else will chime in with suggestions.

The itunes problem on the Atv is a separate problem that just came up.

Good luck.

Dear FastmarcJa (Hi Marc)

RE: " From what you are saying, you can't get into radio at all, in which case the playlist fix won't work."

Yep, you nailed it. Also, for the record, I do have the Remote App on my iPhone, and hadn't tried what you suggested. Well, I did, and guess what. It went right to the internet radio stations playlist, but this was directly from iTunes on my Mini, and of course, has nothing to do with ATV. :-(

I hope you got your ATV to recognize your shared lib again.

Thanks,

George

on apple TV gen 1 if you attempt to search for a song/movie/tv shows to purchase or even browse, many of us are reporting that all we get is "The itunes store is currently unavailable. try again later". This has been going on since 4/14/14.

youtube does work but there is no access to itunes store. old content is not available to some though I have all of my old content and that works fine.
