IPhone 4s crashes in 7.1 when trying to view photo from camera

My iphone crashes every time I try to view a photo after taking it in the camera app. It goes to a blurred screen and just hangs, the only way to get out of it is to hold the top button for several seconds and the phone reboots after several minutes. This iphone is an att 4s 16gb running iOS 7.1. It takes photos fine, and I can view them I the photo app, so this is really more of an annoyance than anything, but I was hoping someone might have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Went through something similar on 7.0.4 and took it to the Genius Bar.

The attendant pulled put the phone in diagnostic mode, went through the logs and determined that was a corruption in the process.

We restored the phone and re-installed iOS. 20 minutes and not terribly hard to do and bring back if backed up.

Ran some more tests - it worked for a few minutes then the problem resurfaced.

He pulled more logs and saw there could be a possible hardware related issue as well.

Called Apple and they elected to replace the phone.

So, my advice - Restore and if not fixed, Replace..

I Just swapped out, under warranty, my 4s for problems with the phone acting dumb. Symptoms so dumb it was like it was possessed and I should have called the Vatican to do an exorcism. Two days into the "new" refurb phone and it's doing what the orig poster is describing. Here is the issue and why eventually all of us are screwed into buying an upgrade. iOS 7 is for 64bit iphones. 4 and 4s are 32bit. Can't play a ps4 game on a ps3 so why would we believe this iOS would work. Guess I will keep making them change phones till either an upgrade is given or...

My wife's iphone is worse off, hers is a 4 though thankfully still unset warranty as well.

Somebody mentioned the problem only happens when you open the camera from the screen saver; I beg to differ as I took about 400 pictures yesterday, the Apple photo app crashed several times on me in addition to not being able to ever view the photos from the camera app, I had to physically view the camera roll in its respected app each time I wanted to make sure the photos were correct.

Previous phone didn't have this problem. I unfortunately got a refurb that was probably turned in for the camera problem and they simply marked fixed and I got stuck with this worthless piece. Swap out tomorrow for phone number three that will likely have another problem. iOS 7 is not suited for iPhone 4 or 4s. Is simple and basic software that apple knows won't work entirely and I shouldn't have updated. Now I can't go back and apple will force me to either upgrade phones without my want or money to do so or I walk away from apple forever. They could upgrade in good faith but won't like the dogs they are And if a suit ever comes to light I will definitely join.

Hi,

I've also had this issue with my 4S 64GB. Currently running on iOS 7.1 (didn't want to update to 7.1.2 after it completely crashed my partners phone, losing all her photos - yes she was stupid not to have a backup but a simple update shouldn't result in total loss of data!).

Anyway, I notice the same issue when the phone is locked or unlocked, doesn't always happen. I'm not always the best at closing down apps, but I did also notice it happens more if I have left a lot of apps open / doesn't happen if there is only the 'desktop' running. I also noticed that having left the phone for a minute or two, it seemed to sort itself out which to me suggests its a lack of system resources.

I too have only experienced this issue recently which suggests it could be either an app I have since installed or that indeed this is a sympton of the updated iOS. I don't personally believe its hardware related.

I have the same issue as the original poster on my iPhone 4S 32 GB running 7.1.2. It seems to only happen to me from the lock screen AND if I try to view the photo immediately after taking it. I find that it's usually okay if I wait a few seconds (imagine, after the phone has looked up and recorded its location) after I take a photo before I view it.

And also same issue here. On my 4S and my wife's.

different Apps. Different use.

BOth running iOS 7..1.1

i wanted to try 7.1.2 but seems you also have the issue.

THe only possible link : they are both full of pictures. About 1GB left.

IT happens when locked and unlocked.

TOo bad, her iPhone is just 2 years and 1 month. After an unused AppleCare +.

(US phone that they would not repair here in Europe....)

I will restore mine and see if the problme is there when still empty from apps and from pictures.

I am having the same issue. Don't recall if it was after the most recent upgrade or the one before, but have had this phone (4S) just over a year and problem didn't happen originally - only started in the past 3 months or so.

Originally it would freeze for just a few seconds to a minute then allow me to view the photo. Just this week it now completely freezes and requires a hard reboot.

If I go to the Genius bar - won't they charge me to diagnose?
