I'm sure it saved you time, but I'm afraid the person you talked to gave you some bad advise, probably so he could move on to another customer. That technique may still work for a few applications today, but it leaves files behind, some of which may well slow your Mac or occasionally cause it to crash. One must always check first with the developer for instructions or possibly an uninstaller app. In this case it's built into TuneUpMyMac, although I have not tested it so I can't say how through it is.
For all AppStore apps you need to follow Apple's own instructions here, which read in part:
Uninstall apps
To uninstall apps you purchased from the Mac App Store, hold down an app’s icon in Launchpad until all the icons begin to jiggle. Click an app’s delete button (x).
Thank you for your description. This is basically what I did to delete the unwanted program from my computer. For whatever reason the uninstall feature was deactivated. I had originally posted what I did because another user was having difficulty as well.
For some reason you seem unable to understand what I am writing. I do not need you to talk me through anything. I find you to be rude, arrogant and not helpful at all. You make a lot of assumptions, not sure why you do that, BUT at my age I find that incredibly annoying. I'm good, my Mac is awesome, it has never run better. All is well here, I initially posted a response to another frustrated user. Live and learn. 🙂

Great! I sincerely hope it stays that way.
Hello,
Very sad that you've taken offence, I've only known this helper to try to selfishly try to help here. 🙂
Ok, I'm sorry but I'm having trouble. There is no option to uninstall under the help tab. Now what?

Sounds like you will have to give their Tech Support a call. Looks to be Systweak at 1-800-871-7918. Do not allow them to get into your Mac though. They should be able to give you an answer over the phone.
This is the number I called when I had my problem and the tech stated "the only way I can help you, is if you give me complete access to your computer." I believe there are variations of the Tune Up My Mac program that do not have the uninstall feature. Why? Perhaps so that unsuspecting Mac users will allow someone access to their computer. My hubby loves Macs' because they are more secure than the average computer. I agree.
Good luck getting rid of the program. 🙂 BTW I never installed it on mine it just appeared after I checked my AOL mail account.
I called that number as well, and they said to uninstall the program you just move the app, from the application list, to the trash. I don't buy that. After I got off the phone with them they called me back and asked if I solved the problem. I said no. They offered to help if I let them connect to my computer. HA! I really have no idea how to uninstall it other than trying that complicated stuff mentioned above, for I do not think dropping it in the trash will solve anything. There is no "uninstall" option in the Help pulldown menu, so people need to stop recommending that.
Thanks
The link that MichelPM provided is no longer correct. There is no uninstall option under the Help menu.

Sorry I missed this earlier.
To remove Genieo run AdwareMedic, a new app that replaces the Adware Removal Tool that has helped thousands of users here in the forum to safely and efficiently remove most all currently known adware infections.
Unfortunately that will not help you with TuneUpMyMac and it looks like I'm going to have to spend some time trying to figure out what that might involve.

I'm still finding users who say they have successfully used this method as recently as a week ago, so I don't understand why it doesn't show up for everybody.
If I find the time to install it in a test environment, I'll see what shows up, but other than that I have no additional information.
If you have trashed the app, rebooted and emptied the trash, what indications do you have that there is anything more installed?
I just followed the solution outlined here http://support.tuneupmedia.com/hc/en-us/articles/200440408-How-can-I-uninstall-T uneUp-from-my-computer-
Hopefully the program and all associated files are successfully cleaned.

Those instructions are for an app named TuneUp, not TuneUpMyMac which is a totally different program from a different developer.
