Use Easy Find or Find Any File. Search for "tuneupmymac" and "systweak" without the quotes. Let us know what all you found.

Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.

So somehow this program managed to sneak its way onto my machine last night.. I think from accidentally clicking a sleazy link when trying to download VLC.. But anyways, I also do not have the uninstall option under help and even so I don't think I would even trust it. There must be some external way to do a clean swipe of the program and it's files...

I ran Find Any File (FAF) and results are below.

I'm thinking either I will just delete all of the files that appeared here (there is an option when you right click on a file in FAF), or use the terminal to really dig in there and make sure everything is gone but my knowledge in BASH is very limited... Hoping someone else could give me a second opinion or has any techniques they think might work.

Note that 7 of these files are hidden so I don't think simply moving the app to the trash will rid your computer of the disease!!

At this point that would be my suggestion. There is no need to use the Terminal for this. And I have no reason to believe there are other files involved, although you could search for any file installed at 9/26/14 9:30.

Was helping a friend the other day who couldn't afford Microsoft Office, but I had forgotten the true URL to www.OpenOffice.org (a great free open source substitute). I was in a hurry, so I used a search engine which brought up www.openoffice.us.com BAD IDEA. A good FAKE. It downloaded this nasty TuneupMyMac into her iMac. I got rid of this horrid thing this way:

1.) If it doesn't show it's face in the Apps folder, you can force it to show itself because it's run before. Go to:

Apple Menu > Recent Items > Recent Applications > TuneupMyMac.

Choose it, the app starts up, and appears in your dock. I clicked and held on the dock app icon and chose "Options > Show in Finder" which opens a new Window revealing the app location. (Leave that window open, but quickly quit the app from running by doing Command Q or a Force Quit via the Apple Menu.)

2.) Then I went to www.appzapper.com and downloaded a free copy of AppZapper, installed it, and started it up which opens a window with a box in it.

3.) I dragged and dropped the TuneupMyMac app into AppZapper's window box and Zapped it (shows you all the crap it's deleting too). Then I looked around in the App folder and found 2 odd folders one called "Search Project" (had disabled stuff still in it) and unfortunately I've forgotten the name of the 2nd folder, but it's easy to find because it has no icon is just a folder, and I then threw both of those out and emptied the trash.

4.) I restarted. Everything appeared to be gone. TuneupMyMac did not turn itself on and start up. App Zapper saved me again. Love that app.

You get 5 free Zaps with App Zapper and it collects not only the App icon from the folder but most or all things an App installed elsewhere in your Mac. A GREAT App to own—and $12.00 is reasonable to keep it have unlimited future Zaps.)

If any Uber Geek here thinks this did not eradicate it completely please post and let me know. From all things I checked it appears to be gone or at least severely disabled!

Hi, I was having the same problem, but I must have a newer operating system or something because I don't have 'Log-in Items" on mine. instead, I have a folder called "Logs," in which I found the tuneupmymac file and trashed it. This is the updated solution for anyone that needs it in this modern world.

The computer that had the problem with TuneupMyMac was running Mavericks 10.9.5, on a new i7 iMac so doesn't get more modern than that. I just found it easier to let AppZapper do all the work and find all the scattered files that the stinking app peppered that computer with.

It's not a folder, it's in System Preferences->Users & Groups and there you will find a tab for your Login Items.

AppZapper is as bad as TuneUpMyMac, you need to stop using one useless utility to get rid of another useless utility.

It is not, I've used AppZapper for years. It doesn't turn on by itself or annoy or bother you in any way. It's just a good app that's there when you need it. Unlike TuneUp which turns itself on and runs and is extremely annoying. And in this problem case, it worked very well.

I must concur with Csound1 that TuneupMyMac is both worthless and dangerous at the same time. I would n to allow it on any of my Macs.

I've used AppZapper as have my clients for many, years, about 10 and no one has any complaints about lost stuff or the app acting in any odd way. It's been very reliable.

I agree with his hate for TuneUp I am talking about AppZapper which easily got rid of the annoying TuneUp infestation, totally.
