MacBook Air Flickering Apple Logo and Cancel Symbol

Hi, I bought a MacBook Air from a lawyer. I didn't know how to restore it so I deleted a ton of files manually. I think I deleted a file I wasn't supposed to. It boots to a flickering apple and cancel sign. Help! MacBook Air running 10.6.8 (no superdrive) I believe its 2011. Can I make a boot disk on a usb drive? Thanks

The single period post was just to get your last post to show. The forums get stuck like this every so often and you can wait hours to see what was posted after you. To force newer posts to show immediately, you just post something - anything.

I know what you think I mean but I'm saying that there is no option for it. Like no menu at the top right.

Are you referring to Disk Utility? You have to highlight the physical drive, as like shown below, or you don't get the Partition tab at the right.

Disk Utility also may be blocking it when in standard Recovery mode since it's working off of the hidden partition on the drive. You'd have to kick yourself off the drive in order to repartition, so it's not allowing it.

Restart again in Internet Recovery Mode (Command+Option+R) so you can do the partitioning. This must be done in order to make the drive map GUID, or OS X will never be allowed to install.

I don't think you can do that in either recovery mode since there isn't a way to tell the Mac what wireless signal to connect to, or enter its password. I believe you must use a wired connection. But don't quote me on that.

Edit: I take that back. Apple's article says you can connect wireless.

The Wi-Fi menu is in the upper-right corner of the screen. Click the icon to select from available Wi-Fi networks. Choose your preferred network name and, if needed, enter a username and/or password.
