iMessage Inactive

I've been trying to set up iMessage on my computer for a while. I've finally verified my email for my Apple ID and everything, and then signed into iMessage. But whenever I try to send a text through iMessage on the computer, a box pops up and says I need to sign in. I found that, in the box where I type, it says "iMessage (inactive)". I have tried signing out and signing back in, disenabling iMessage then enabling it again, but it doesn't work. iMessage still works fine on my iTouch, just not on the computer. Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same problem and nothing I saw in these suggestions worked for me. I finally just clicked on some of the other accounts in iMessages Preferences, and then I reclicked on iMessages, and THIS time, it let me sign in! Super simple, but I didn't know to try it. D'oh!

Hello.

This is how my problem was solved...

I tried to set up message app on my macbook pro but my imessage account was "inactive", not letting me login with my apple id. After many searches and restarts/logouts/prefs deletions nothing changed.

Finally following some suggestions, I created a new account (gmail) in messages prefs and then clicked on iMessage account. This time the username & password was there and, after login, everything worked fine.

Thank you! Randomly iMessage on my computer stopped working and was listed as "inactive". The "Restart using a PRAM/NVRAM reset ? (HOLD the ALT+CMD+P+R keys down at restart until you have heard three start up bongs then releases and allow it to boot)" worked!

You should right click on the app icon in the footer bar below and quit imessages.

Restart it and this worked fine with me.
