My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

User uploaded file

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

I had the same issue and the only way to help I found is to remove the coating. I cleaned mine with a tiny bit of ceramic hob cleaner on dry kitchen paper - I had to do this about 3 times until it came off the entire screen. I then wiped it over with a damp microfibre cloth and it's perfect! It only took about 10 mins for the whole thing and now it's like new (except without the anti-glare coating). Hope this helps!

I have the same problem. Last year when the problem became severe I read on discussion boards that Apple closed the program of repairs and so I left it as it was. But my screen is getting more and more stained and thus preventing me from working on my Mac 😟

I've just read here that the program of replacement has been prolonged up till 19th of Oct 2017 but I didn't know that and I MISSED the date! What can I do now? Should I contact my Apple local service or shop and ask for this issue to be seen to anyway? I live in Poland and I've had bad experiences with every single service no matter the brand (even while during warranty period) as they always told me to pay for the repairs. What kind of documentation (if any) I can provide to have my screen replaced under the warranty? Or is it a lost case now? I love my Mac but I can't work on it like this.

Thanks for any input!

In response to JDW1:

You're dead wrong. The reason Apple is using a glass case is so people wont start to 3D print their own mods, and to make wireless charging more efficient. Case closed, that is it my friend.

Apple is a proprietary company and always has been. If you think Apple is going to make a glass case for a MacBook you're crazy. Aluminium is way cheaper.

Basic economics. It's cheaper to replace the screens.

Well, you are not the only one to whom it is happening multiple times ! However what is emerging is that on subsequent replacements, one is having to go higher up in the ladder to get Apple approval. While one appreciates the multiple replacements being done, after a customer has almost given up sometimes, the ignorance level of the SP's in many regions needs to be sensitised to this problem that is not showing any signs of a permanent cure. Apple really should come out with a statement as to why they cant offer problem free replacement displays.

Similar problem here. Late 2013 15 inch MBP. Have only cleaned the screen with a damp, soft cloth. Problems on screen started only last month - 4 years after purchase.... My MBP is not on their list of models / serial numbers as having the issue, so they won't do anything about it. I'm writing this on my 2010 MBP that has never had any issues. Sigh....

those are keyboard key marks from finger oils transferred to the screen.

Thats 200% as clear as day.

something has like eaten away a part of the screen.

Yes, acid on your fingers (and oils) transferred to the keys, THEN to the display when closed.

but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage

No.........thats stripped AR coating FROM the screen, not ON THE SCREEN.

Youre thinking its something THERE, when its something MISSING

I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem,

Dont dare use that, that will ruin your screen.

if water and microfiber arent working,

They wont work, because your hand oils and acids have stripped the AR coating off part of the screen. Keep cleaner hands when using your Mac.

Some people have naturally VERY HIGH acidic skin excretions, you may have this issue.
