My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

I am out of warranty. My screen had an issue before and was replaced. Now just one month over the 1 year warranty for the new screen, this error appears. I will try to make an appointment with the Genius Bar. See what they can do.

I started to develop them within 3 months of purchase. It kept on increasing, but since it was not under warranty, I could not do much. The screen replacement was expensive. Been struggling for 3 years now.

Exactly what's happening to my screen. Unacceptable that this is somehow outside of manufacturing defect warranty on a $2,500 piece of hardware. I will not pay for a known issue, and...according to this thread, the expensive replacement screens fail too. This is worthy of a recall.

I'm taking mine to a 'Genius' bar for repair and will keep this thread posted.

I have significant stain damage on a 2012 MBP with a 1 year warranty. I brought it to Apple (not some licensed reseller) last week and they're replacing the screen. No questions asked, no cost. One interesting thing to note is that my screen was replaced previously because of a defect that occurred in certain 2012 MBPs (ghosting). So, I got another faulty screen in return. But I didn't feel this factored into their decision. They basically said, yeah this happens, it's a production fault, we'll replace it. So, I'm happy with Apple.

don't worry mate they have an official replacement proramme for this issue now. You'll get it replaced (screen). They even went a step further for me as I was having trackpad issues and in the UK we have a brilliant law which protects electronics consumers for 3 years. So they ran some test and found MORE hardware issues, so I basically got back a brand new macbook. Sold it as apple refurb on ebay, added a litle extra money and made enough to buy a 2015 mbp pro at xmas 🙂 Really happy now that I had this screen issue. Plus is proves that Apple have the BEST customer service although they do need more genius bars, very busy at my local one in Birmingham

I have the same issue with my screen.

Brought it to the apple Store. They said they will replace the screen for free in 48 hours.

Then 2 days later, they called me saying I have liquid damage ... and it will cost $1250. I was shocked as I never spilled anything on my computer and my macbook has no functional issues except the peeling screen coating.

Then I'm wondering how liquid damage can impede them changing the screen ...

I have read that another user was duped out of a replacement for that same argument. And, like you, they didn't think that they had any liquid damage to their Mac, especially NOT to the screen which was, after all, the problem.

I am surprised also that they want to charge you that kind of money, given the screen's price is about a third even if you were paying for it (which you shouldn't have to)?

Hope that you persevere and get this addressed as that seems rather cavalier- to tell you that they will replace it under the quality programme and then renege with the argument that you've damaged other parts so it's a "no go"? I mean- what proof have you got that they didn't spill something on it? Yeah- I am paranoid, I admit. I got mine back with marks and smears all over the "new" screen which told me that whoever handled my MBPro wasn't as OCD about such things as I am...

I have the same issue on my macbook pro retina 2012. No word on a recall? Sounds like a pretty widespread issue - love to know how they can ignore this

Great. I gave my mbp to Apple yesterday, I was wondering after the replacement is the same issue happening? Does new coating have same issues?

Looks like There are many people with the same issue. An issue that is being continuously reported for 3 years and no good answer from apple. All this is happening while you clean your mac screen like the way you clean any other computer screen. Does it mean it can't even bear cleaning it? I think we all deserve a proper answer for this from Apple. 😐

So - late 2013 rMBP 15" with the same problem as everyone on here.

I have just gone through most of this thread, well I skipped a few pages ! and just want to add that I have just called Apple Support and he confirmed that I am eligible for a free replacement screen. There are no appointments available (I'm in the UK btw) so I need to keep an eye out for a slot - but good news indeed !!

Mine is screwed too. And this is on a replacement MacBook Pro because the previous one blew up. Ridiculous how bad the quality control is at Apple.
