Typing lag following Pages 5.2 update

Pages is running so slowly I can’t use it for work. Sentences lag after I type them, sometimes for minutes. Also scrolling lags and skips, and the thumbnails pane is absolutely crazy - it shows overlapping pages, missing pages, etc. The problem seems to be slightly exacerbated in longer documents, but does not seem to affect Word, TextEdit, SublimeText, TeXShop, or other text editors. It is also exacerbated by the general slowness of the computer, which is coming up on five years old now, but the problem is definitely Pages-specific, definitely only started after the update, and it definitely making it totally unusable. I'd really appreciate any advice, even simple stuff.

I've just upgraded to pages 5.2 (as part of the complete iWork update), on a mid-2009 Macbook Pro (running OS X 10.9.2), with a 2.23 GHz processor and 8 GB of RAM.

Why suffer when there is a perfectly good alternative?

Use Pages '09 and get a bonus 110 features and a whole lot less bugs.

Did you resolve the problem with pages. I have never had problems with Pages until the recent upgrades, mostly after Yosemite. Now when I type into a Pages document the typing lag is just unbearable. It's all very well for people to say to use a different app but that's not the point. Pages should work! Otherwise why have it in the first place? Would be interested to hear how you got on, thanks.

I am writing an academic paper and using endnote. MacBook Air, 16, OS X 10.9.5. Removing the footnotes solved the problem instantly. Will have to add them when the paper is finished. What a pain!

July 2015, the problem has still not been corrected by apple... but deleting the footnotes seems to be working for me.

Solved my typing lag problem (that only started after upgrading to Pages 5.6.2): disabled "check spelling while typing". So glad it was such a simple fix because the lag was huge and I rely on Pages for my work. Fingers crossed.

Any news? This is now more than two years later on Pages 6.0 and Sierra 10.12. Pages is still super slow and laggy when typing… 1st Gen Retina MBP 16GB RAM and almost 50gb free HD space…

Same problem on macOS 10.12.1. Pages is really slow typing and Apple Support's only answer is to admit Pages is slow and there's nothing to do about it.

I have has this intermittently. Whilst not a support specialist I can confirm that this issue is being caused in my case by the insertion of footnotes. Clearly a bug
