Here's a solution that worked for me. I have an Iphone 5s and a Mac Pro running 10.6.8

1. Plug your Iphone into the computer via USB.

2. Wait for the prompt on the Iphone that says "trust" "don't trust" and choose "trust".

3. Go to "Log Out" from the apple menu on your computer.

4. Log out and then log back in. You will need to know you password to log back in.

5. Once you are logged back in, open the Image Capture Application on the computer. It should now recognize the Iphone's movies and photos. You can then import them to the computer. Hope that works for you.

thanks, I have managed to import my photos but what about iTunes? - I still cannot get it to recognise my phone and so cannot update playlists etc. Any suggestions?

Were you ever able to that? Or did it stop recognizing after a software update on the Iphone or the computer?

The computer stopped recognising my iphone after the latest software update on the iPhone (10.1.1). My computer has an older OS, 10.7, I think, and my macbook is 10.8.5, and neither now recognise the iphone. I really don't want to update my OS on the computers, as then lots of my software won't work.

I'm in the same bind with not wanting to update because of software I need to use. I have been using my Mom's updated computer to save Itunes/playlists etc.

Another option would be to get a second internal hard drive for your computer and format it to the latest OSX. Then you could boot up with that drive for backing up Itunes etc.

I agree, it's ridiculous. What ****** me off most is that Apple gives no alert/warning before updating your Iphone that your computer may not recognize it any longer. Hope you are able to resolve your situation. Let me know how it goes.

Good points! I like to use my devices until they wear out. It's frustrating that new code is written with little regard for older devices even though the older device may be superior.
