galaxy s5 not receiving messages from iphone users

Okay, this is my final update. It SEEMS that once you have been deactivated from iMessage, an iPhone user still needs to turn their phone off and then turn it back on in order to reconnect with the iMessage server. I have tried this with several friends who could not send me messages, & I asked them to cycle their phones off and on, and as soon as they did that, there text message just came through to me immediately without a problem. I don't know how you would let all of your contacts note to do that, butts once you're out of the I'm message system, it appears that all of your iphone users still need to recycle power to reconnect and have their phones see that you're no longer there.

you need to follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5185 and if it fails contact apple support as it shows on the bottom .. They can help you fix it 😀

also after apple support removes your phone number from the server end, you may need to ask your friend/contact to remove their "message conversation" associated with your phone number and start a new one or simply remove and readd you as a contact.

As manhood thanks for the tip. That is a bit extensive for users facing these issues. For the record, I did attempt all of these steps and had no luck with a fix.

What DID work, is something someone posted on here and my phone immediately started and still receive sms and mms from iPhone users. Here's what I did:

(Between iPhone 4G and SG4)

SIM card from SG4 was put back into iphone.

Send multiple sms to iPhone users or anyone with imessage disabled.

After a few minutes, return sim card back to SG4 and continue texting.

Started receiving group/ regular sms and mms.

Reset your iphone network setting back to factory. IT WORKED FOR ME AND IM NOW SENDING AND RECEIVING TEXTS TO NON-iphone users!!!!!

I called in again (2nd time) after having Apple remove my number from the iMessage system. They said I should make sure I update my old iPhone (thankfully I kept it) to the lasted software update...7.1.1 I believe. I did that and am now 2 for 2 in getting messages from people I could not yesterday. Hope that solves it!

Could this be the next class action lawsuit against Apple? This problem is the one reason why I have not given up my iPhone. I am a busy attorney and I don't have time to mess around with a phone that does not receive texts (nor will my business contacts appreciate me asking them to disable imessage in order to send me a text). I can't see any other reason for this except to punish people who give up their iPhones. Ridiculous.

IDK about a law suit, but it certainly is an annoying problem.

I mentioned previously that updating my old iPhone to the newest software update fixed it....but what about for people who traded in or sold their iPhones?

Thats great if you still have the iphone but alot of us don't have it anymore.

Seems like they need to almost reset their system to clear out any and all old links to iMessage

Just got off the chat with Apple support had the same problem upgraded my daughters phone to the samsung S5 and did not receive any texts from iphone users, it got resolved by the chat rep deactivating the imessage just provided my daughters phone # and she receive a text from Apple with a confirmation # which I provided to the rep and the problem was fixed.

Just keep an eye on it, because I also followed those same steps and the issue reoccured a week later. But you are correct; the iMessage needs to be deactivated from the number that has had the upgraded device. If that worked for hers then, congratulations. I would still just keep an eye on it.

wow apple sure has enough people watching the forums to delete flaming posts like mine about this issue.

Why don't you just do what gamma38 posted two posts above? It is a simple fix. No need to make a Federal Case out of it....

So this is what we did. Just had the same problem when I switched from an IPhone 5s to a Galaxy s5. Find the AT&T messenger app on the Gs5 or download it. Update it and use as your primary message app. Worked perfect for me and I started getting everyone's texts right away. Good luck.
