apple tv does not access iTunes - 4/17/2014
Apple TV (3rd generation)
I'm experiencing this problem as well with a 1st gen Atv. It is accessing the Internet, but won't access movies, music or tv.
Hi johncav,
I seemed to encounter the same issue trying to download a movie. This seemed to work:
From home screen:
Settings >
Downloads >
Check for Downloads
Yeah, that's happening to me, too. It will download around 8% and then stop. It's a pain, but at least the work-round suggested above seems to be work . . . we'll see . . .
Argh, you're right. Keeping an eye on the download and it is sporatic. Still encountering error -3253.
Wondering if this merits a new thread referencing this error code?
Yo guys!
It is fixed!
Rejoice!!!
Seem to be experiencing slow/stalled downloads, but at least I can push "play" on a movie rental.
Assuming Apple was able to restore an itunes connection but may still optimize fix for better download speeds in the upcoming days.
Hi jt, I've begun a discussion on this problem https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6118194?tstart=0
Thanks Mitchys, that seems to make sense. Cheers.
Hi Mitchys what worked for me was adding the radio stations to a new playlist. then I manually copied over some of the radio stations from the new playlist to an existing music playlist. eg playlist called Ultimate. As I did so I noticed that various songs in the Ultimate playlist were unticked (importantly I didnt delete any songs that were in the list already, I left them there). I left them unticked and noticed the stations I added were ticked. I then hit apply and the playlist synced over.
Doing it this way I was able to add to two existing playlists. I can open these playlists on the ATV under Internet -Radio- Playlists. Dont know if it will always work or was just a fluke for me. I was also able to rename one of the playlists which was reflected over right away too.
hope this helps
Thanks Elkoth, all is sorted.
The only step I missed each time I read the post which gave the work-around was seeing the word "Playlist' in the Radio menu. It must have been in another thread where I commented that I had finally worked it out.
Downloading movie content is still sporadic but it does seem to be improving (only had to click Check Downloads five times instead of ten the second time round).
Regards,
Mitchys
Hi Mitchys
if the download keeps stalling> you could try connecting to the internet over wired...i.e. directly from the ATV to your modem router using ethernet. Also ensure the box isnt simultaneously syncing over content from a computer if so halt the sync by closing itunes on your computer etc. Alternatively you could purchase the content via itunes on your computer first and then sync it over from there ..this would route the media from different hosting servers I suspect.
..also make sure the ATV has a bit of airflow around it and isnt getting too hot. Internet also needs to have good bandwidth/ throughput available.. if its degraded at the moment in your area that could definetely cause the paused downloads. If on DSL, restarting the modem can sometime make for a better connection if the line is at fault. you might have another computer in your home network downloading too maybe? Failing everything could be the streaming service the ATV is connecting too, if throughput to and from that is an issue then via itunes first might be better.. I know you can get purchases via itunes then sync em over not sure about rentals though
Just to update - today 23 Apr - iPad3 updated itself (after asking manually despite being set to tauto-update) to v7.1.1, ATV3 updated to v6.1.1 (ditto update scenario), iTunes is still at v7.1.5.5 and guess what - nothing is better, in fact things got worse, as now I can't get iTunes and ATV3 to talk to each other in any direction and iPad will not backup to my pc.
I have gone into Programs and Features and repaired iTunes and Bonjour but to no noticeable effect.
I have laboriously followed the supposedly 'help' suggestions until blue in the face and all I get is either 'everything is up to date/OK/any other condescending phrase' or 'sorry that request failed for any reason but one I can fix for you'.
Strangely the ATV3 will connect and view any app on the main menu such as Netflix, Sky, etc and the iPad3 will play live TV from FilmOnTV to the ATV3 without any problem. The problem is iTunes will not even talk to the ATV3 through HomeSharing.
Come on Apple - pulll your finger out and get this sorted out ...
... or is their a hidden agenda to prevent people who want to load their own stuff from CD or DVD using iTunes without buying from iTunes Store from viewing it on TV via an expensive piece of locked down kit like ATV.
Thanks Elkoth,
I'll try the Ethernet connection out today (it's morning here in Australia - our east coast is 14 hours ahead of the USA's west coast - my wife is Stateside looking after her folks after eye ops).
Mitchys
G'day Flagship,
I hope no other owners of ATV have to go through what we Gen 1's had to. I'd suggest starting another thread because this one is about Gen 1's.
Mitchys
Sorry, I meant East coast, not west coast.
