apple tv does not access iTunes - 4/17/2014

I have an AppleTV 1st gen and was interested in this thread. Somewhere along the way, someone restarted and the fix was done. That didn't work for me but as soon as I reset to original factory settings, iTunes 12 found the appleTV and I was able to sync again and to update the ATV1 software without problem.
