After getting the device back up and running by plugging it into my computer with iTunes and then unable to restore from a backup, I took the device to the Genius Bar. They did a test on the device and found it was okay. She suggested that the backup was corrupt, I should delete the corrupt backup, and set it up as a new device. I did that, created a new backup, did a restore from the new backup just to test it, and everything worked fine. I finished downloading everything from iTunes and it's back to normal. It appears I was unlucky and got a double whammy with a bad update and a corrupt backup.

You know, honestly, I hate to say this since I've been an Apple fan for years, but I think I'm done with them. Unless they can get their crap sorted out, my current iPhone may be the last Apple product I ever bother with. Thanks a flipping lot to Jony Ive for the gigantic rainbow-coloured turd that is iOS 7. That's what started all my trouble, and I'd almost be happy if I could just get iOS 6 back again. NO WAY I'll risk updating to 7.1.1 until I know it's safe, and even then I'll have some very severe doubts.... Seriously, Apple, get it together.

While it's true that no software is 100% bug free, it used to be that software was beta tested to remove most of the bugs before it was rolled out. While I know those of us with trhese problems are a relatively small % of all users, the issues are so major (and there have been SOOO many issues in the couple of years) that I sometimes wonder whether Apple does any beta testing...

This happened to my iPhone 5 too. It says that it needs to be restored to factory settings. I use my phone for picture and me and my family just went away to see relatives. I have almost 500 photos. Is there any way that I can save them?

I've been with Apple for a long time for a very long time and I've never had very many problems. But when I do, they're really big. I'm honestly thinking about changing. You need to get it together apple.

My over-the-air update of my iPhone 5 also failed. This was a first for me, as previous over-the-air updates completed successfully without a hitch.

This time, I was greeted with the screen display of the lightning connector and iTunes icon. I put two and two together, plugged the phone into my iMac, and revved up iTunes. Thankfully, I had a recent backup. The only data I lost was my badges and listening stats from the Audible audiobooks app, which hung up during the restore process. No big deal, but I ought to investigate the possibility of restoring data from a single app.

Apple I am sooo upset! After trying to update my iPhone 5s via wireless it froze and forced me to restore my iphone! Wth!,,,I lost all my pics, apps, music, thank you for making my life miserable! I am reconsidering Apple, been a loyal customer since the first iphone.... Seems to be disappointing with every update,... Too frequent issues, get it together!!!
