Logic X UI bug (Meters freeze, Mixer and Arrange window unresponsive)

Logic X UI bug (Meters freeze, Mixer and Arrange window unresponsive)

Meters freeze, window is kinda buggy like "windows" style, playhead doesnt move too. Whole UI doesnt respond.

Some of my projects load this way now=( Projects originally created in LogicX, everything was ok like 4 days ago, 10 midi tracks with Kontakt 5 on them, and couple audio tracks. I didnt change a thing.

Now when i load a project, sometimes its all good before i bring out mixer (cmd+2) and try to fit it to display, then GUI lags and freezes starts. Some projects loads this way from the start, even if no mixer window is open.

What can it be ?

MBP 15 (early 2011), i7 2.2 6750m. Os 10.9.2. LogicX 10.0.0.6

Reistalled whole system yesterday. Clean 10.6.8 -> Mavericks -> all updates and Logic X. This bug is still here. I dont think that it is a hardware problem, this problem occurs only in several projects, other works fine.

BTW i figured out that one of my Template projects is carrying this bug now, so i uploaded it. Tell me if you can recreate this problem on your system ! Just open the project and open mixer.

Also i noticed that same thing happens when Logic popping up question windows like when you close your project and it ask you if you want to save, all meters freeze and ui dont respond! Maybe it has something to do with that ?

Now that you've eliminated a corrupted OS, bad drivers or other software faults it is very unlikely that your projects suddenly go mad to produce this. Especially since the "bugs" you mention have nothing to do with the information stored in the project files.

Subtle hardware errors need to be triggered too, say by projects that consume a certain amount of memory. And that's exactly what the corruption seen in your screen shot points at: A graphics memory or GPU fault.

Put your mbp into target disk mode and boot the installed OS from another mac and you'll see that the problem suddenly vanishes.

Good luck,

Jazz

Thanks for your reply, ill try that.

I aware of GPU fail problems of 2011 MBP's, and symptoms doesnt match. I really dont think this is a hardware problem cuz graphics issues thats happening ''stick'' to mixer window, arrange window and logic itself, plus no other apps or system is affected by such graphics glitches. I tested my CPU and GPU under heavy load, no artifacts appeared. Also i tested with GfxCardStatus, and there is no difference with integrated or discrete GPU.

Bugs has nothing to do with progect file, but now im thinking maybe its because this project template was originally created on Logic 9, and since last logic patch all my projects created from this template may be affected. Thats why it would be great if you can open my project on your machine and see if problem occur.

Smokensound,

Tried your project here on both my Mav 10.9.2 and LPX 10.0.6 setups and no issues at all on either of them..

Couldn't recreate your described issues..... and what you showed in that last screenshot, looks like a graphics card issue for sure....

Note: To double check..that I did what you asked... I downloaded your project, loaded it and opened the mixer. No issues, no delays. no graphical artifacts or corruptions...no problems of any kind...

Whoa.... You said....

My last image i took with my iphone, because on a screenshot it is just empty mixer window like 1st image.

You using two monitors?

What you just decribed shouldn't happen even if you are or are not using two monitors... which again, indicates some issue with either your graphics card or your Spaces setup somehow...

I think what you just described, will be the root to your issue... resolve that, and your problem will go away.

It happend with dual display setup, and with just mbp display

The corruption/GUI lag could easily be a symptom of the fact you are setup and using two monitors... spaces... along with GC issues... and something isn't configed correctly..

Try this in exactly this order... Shut down your Mac... making sure you uncheck the 'reopen windows when logging back in' checkbox...disconnect the second monitor.. restart your Mac.. make sure your display settings just show one monitor and it is set correctly.. and then launch Logic and test....

I was testing all possible things for past three days, including gfxcardstatus for both cards. No luck there. Right now its all gone, cuz im on 10.6.8 and its all good again =D. Let this thread rest peacfully till somebody else had similar problems, or i hope not =)

I will take my mac to apple service anyway to make some hardware tests and etc. If they tell me tha graphics card is failing ill report here. But something tells me that this is just another easter egg from Mavericks and LPX =D

Thank you for help 😉
