How to exit recovery mode without restoring the phone during the newest update?

So I forgot to back up my phone and I went to update and it just turned into recovery mode. Are there any ways to exit the recovery mode?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.1

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the phone reboots and shows the Apple logo

Dear Sirs,

I have questions for Apple support regarding this issue:

1) Your IOS upgrade procedures between different versions caused me a lot of recurring problems. Why is still a problem in 2014? Your QA procedures are buggy and not on scale with the price of the product. What I learned is to just leave IOS system (on iPad and on iPhone) as it is and hope it works, because major IOS upgrades caused complete disk format in 50% of the cases. I also made backups before major upgrades. But I guess this is not safe method anymore.

2) I did no upgrade attempt, no jail brake attempt, nothing at all. But when I turned on my iphone 5 (on IOS 6) it was in recovery mode. When I entered iTunes, it offered only restore from the backup!? You can say I should make backups, but I say you should make more quality software (equal to the end-price). If you postpone responsibility for data to end user you are basically saying: you can not rely on quality of our system, because we can break (with PUSH method) your OS any time. If you didn't have backup at that moment, you are on your own.

3) Why can't you offer functionality of (1) Enter restore mode; (2) Leave restore mode in iTunes or in some Apple supported winOS/osx program. Currently customers must download some 3rd party packages from unknown vendors and try to save what they can?

So to put long story short:

1) Why did my IOS 6 on my iPhone 5 entered recovery mode without any action on my side?

2) How can you help me to get data from my iPhone without complete system restore?

Best regards and I really hope your product management team goes back to the drawing boards!

I saw a glimps of hope for my iPhone data. I would basically need only to restore my summer pictures and videos.

I tried to access data over Windows OS, but there was no access to the disk. I gave up and said that I will follow the only remaining option: backup from my 6 months old backup. But when I connected my iPhone to the OSX I saw pictures on my phone in program Image capture for just a few seconds. Then they disappeared and I could only saw caption Devices 0, Shared 0.

Can this mean that my pictures are still on the iPhone or was this only some cashed version of pictures in Image Capture from the last time I connected to iPhone.

Thank you for your clarifications.

Firstly, not to panic.

Might be worth ensuring you have the latest edition of itunes update.

I got stuck on recovery mode but was probably an interruption to trying to upgrade to the latest software on the iphone.

Just try connecting again to itunes once you have the latest edition and press upgrade for your iphone operating system rather than restore.

Thanks for the info on TinyUmbrella

Let me start by saying I am not very techy so I'll do the best I can to explain how I resolved my problem with Iphone 4 upgrade that got me stuck in recovery mode. thankfully I did not restore my phone like Itunes told me I needed to. Note that I tried all of the various button pressing techniques but none worked for me. Eventually, Tiny Umbrella resolved my issue but it took some effort.

The version I used at first was newer than the one in RAVOHN's post and I could not find the EXIT RECOVERY button so I ended up downloading an earlier 32 bit version. Unfortunately I could not get it to load, all I got on the screen was a small black rectangle. Turns out I needed to use a 32 bit version of Java (apparently java is needed for it to run) and the program opened. Unfortunately, Tiny Umbrella did not recognize my device (Iphone 4). From what I read, this is because I was using a 64 bit version of Itunes. Once I got all 3 programs as 32 bit, my phone showed up as described above and was out of recovery/fixed with one click. I will note that because I have 64 bit machine, I had trouble loading the 32 bit Itunes because it recognized my system and would not load the Itunes version I tried to download. I was able to work around it from Chris' comments on this thread.

Re: How to install 32 bit iTunes on 64 bit Windows 8.1 Pro?

iTunes 12.3.1 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards)

Hope this helps
