iOS 7.1.1 New Update Problems!

I have just updated my iPhone 5s and iPad 4. My iPad is working fine but my iPhone isn't. It just comes up with a picture that shows that I should connect it to iTunes on my laptop. I have done that and now it is telling me to reset and restore my iPhone before I can use it on iTunes. iTunes is updating the software onto my iPhone via my laptop but it is taking hours. I wouldn't recomend anyone to update to this new software because is seems to work for some people but not others.

Nothing is working and I don't know what to do!

Is anyone else having the same problem?

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Sorry to hear about your loss of data. My iPhone bricked and it ****** me off because I know what a hassle it is to restore everything. I use iCloud for daily backups. Anyone who has used any computer technology for any length of time can't blame an otherwise good product for their failure to back up their data on a regular basis. I lost less than 18 hours worth of data, mostly text messages. There is nothing wrong with the iPad, any model, that can't be fixed with a little user discipline.

I agree--nothing wrong with the iPad. Unfortunately, with over 300 apps, I would quickly burn through my free iCloud storage--and have to pay Apple's upscale prices--if I backed everything up. And other backup methods are purposefully made rather painful. Therefore, I only backed up the really important stuff, which I was able to recover. I also had many apps that did not support iCloud. I had to use iTunes to transfer the documents to my laptop, which was time-consuming. The irritating part is that I lost the data because of a stupid Apple iOS update. I will certainly practice better user discipline, but I will opt to use a product with better backup options.

Backing up to iTunes is not 'painful' you dont have to back your apps up to icloud as they are shown in your iTunes account under purchased and can be downloaded again free at any time. You may loose App data but you can back that up to iCloud. The person at fault here is you for not backing your data up pure and simple. 5GB goes quite a long way and iTunes does it for free to your computer, there is no excuse.

So who was talking about backing up apps to icloud? I did not 'loose' [sic] my apps. I lost data--as I previously explained. And 5GB might go a long way for you (especially if you don't back up pictures and graphics), but not for me--different people have different use requirements. Also, I'm not assigning fault. I just explained what happened. I realize you love Apple and I'm not trying to change your opinion.

I also had the problem while updating my iphone 4s to ios 7.1.1 (I have windows 8 64 bit) about the lock screen with itunes log to connect; I've made a chat with Apple support and after try every steps:

- delte all Apple software,

- deactivate/activate Apple Mobile Device by local service,

- hold on power button and home button on my iphone,

I SOLVED by using another usb port on my PC.

Then Itunes recognized my Iphones 4s and started the Recovery mode, then by last backup all gone well.

Do NOT update until AFTER your backup your device. Sounds intuitive, but I discovered after the fact that somehow "iCloud" "got turned off" and that there were no backups of my phone this year.

Because of the software error in the backup process, I lost all data since the last synch with iTunes, including all updates to contacts, all photos, all text messgaes ... this list goes on. This was EXTEMELY disruptive and an EXTEMELY costly mistake.

VERY dissaponting. VERY frustrating. And, most impotantly, a VERY bad customer experience and VERY poor QA.

My iPad was updating and it is telling me to plug in to iTunes and now to go further I will loss everything. I have pictures that were one of a kind and I am just sick about losing everything. Apple should of told you this would happen with the new download. How can I stop this download? How can I back up stuff on my iPad mini?

I had a similar problem after the update bricked my iPad. My guess is that the iOS 7.1.1 update failed because it lost the WiFi connection mid-way through the update process. I had started the update before I went to bed and when I woke up the next morning, the iPad was stuck on the 'Connect to iTunes' graphic. I couldn't turn it on or off. I realized I would have to reset to factory at that point. Yet, when I plugged it into my Windows computer, My iTunes would not recognize the iPad. I finally got it working (of course my data was lost) by plugging it into my son's computer.

Unfortunately, I can't even look at my iPad now. This update caused me to lose some programming projects, pictures, drawings, and documents--and I'm disgusted. Granted, I should have backed stuff up, but that doesn't make me feel any better. I really don't see myself using the thing again (whether or not it's Apple's fault).
