iOS 7.1.1 update causing wifi problems

Since I've update my ipad 3 to iOS 7.1.1 my home wifi network keeping dropping out. I've rebooted, and reset network settings, but the issue persists. This only began after the update, so I'm guessing this is an issue with the 7.1.1 update

My trials and tribulations on this issue & a few pointers:

As many have said, my iPhone 4S Wifi started behaving irrationally after the iOS 7.1.1 update. Everything was ok till then. Sometimes wifi gets disconnected and when I reconnect, it connects. Sometimes, the settings menu itself goes into a twist and hangs the phone. In all, pretty bad.

Sequence of tries in increasing order of frustration !

1. Simply try connecting back to your preferred Wifi

2. Turn off wifi and turn on

3. Use the menu which you get swiping up and use the Wifi option there to switch off and switch on

4. Turn wifi off, turn cellular on (if you have subscribed), exit out of settings. Come back again and do the reverse.

5. Reset network settings

6. If everything else fails, reboot your iphone. This step has worked everytime for me till now.

The last step makes me feel Apple is heading in Windows direction!!!!

Ive been having the same issue.......

What Ive found is that when I hook any of the IOS7.1.1 phones or Ipads to a power cord then after it goes into locked mode and about 2 minutes later. My entire WiFi network locks up.... If I have a ping test running it shows lattency jump from 5ms to 1700ms. I believe it has something to do with the phone "updating" to the cloud...

This is a REAL issue that needs to be corrected because as soon as one of my 7 apple devices in the house need to be charged it kills the internet for everyone else for about 10 minutes......

Guys, i wanna share my fix with my iphone 5s 64gb issues with wifi dropping issues. I have Xfinity, i have made those guys replace my modems 3-4 times and re-run cables outside and inside of my house (Due to previous issues i had with them) & NONE of those things made any change to my wifi dropping in my room while im on netflix, online gaming on my iphone, or streaming. Randomly the wifi icon would disappear and LTE would pop up, I HATED that. Until last night i found out the issue that it took hours for me to detect it. I believe the issue is related with the "Renew Lease" option under your wifi SSID on wifi settings AND the DNS address . What i did was go to my Xfinity router settings, by typing 10.0.0.1 on my the URL bar and changed the "Renew Lease" option under connection > wifi > Edit> and change the oprtion from Renewing Every day, To "Forever" which means my iphone doesnt need to renew EVER again within my house wifi connection. Then i went to my wifi settings on my iphone, pressed the "i" symbol next to my connection, and changed dns address from the default, To the exact same address posted above in the "router" section, ex. "192.168.1.1" then i pressed back, Rebooted my iphone and rebooted the router, and i have had no problems at all anymore. Hope this helps yall. Its just the iphone having a hard time keeping a constant connection with wifi connection. Oh, also CHANGE your SSID from its default to a new unique name, so that way theres no interference with any neighbors similar connection. All of this steps have removed all my headaches from the past 3 months with my wifi, now i go to the furthest room in my house and stream movies and i dont have a drop anymore at all.

Any questions feel free to ask, since Apple hasnt helped us lol

[SOLUTION]

Guys, i was having this exact same problem after updating to 7.1.1. I restored and then it forced me to update to 7.1.2, but the problem still persisted.

I tried many times to restore via iTunes, or restore network settings/restore all settings via Settings.

The problem was solved for 10 minutes, the wifi could connect.

But just for 10 minutes and then it started searching until no networks were found.

Sometimes when I restored the wifi became "greyed out".

Ok. Solution.

- I bought my iPhone in 2011 in US. So its warranty is definitely expired.

- I went to the Apple Store in Sydney (I live here now) and they scheduled me a Genius Bar Appointment

- Waited for about an hour and then they took me to see the technician

- Explained my problem to him:

"I was running 7.0.6 and it was just fine, but as soon as I updated to 7.1.1 the wifi issues started to appear, I tried restoring but I was then forced to update to 7.1.2 in which the problem still persisted."

- Make sure you show him the wifi toggle GREYED OUT

- I reckon it is easier for him to accept that it is not your fault if you show that the wifi toggle is greyed out.

- In the beginning he gave an option to make a DFU Restore (which they say only apple could do) or Swap my phone (which I would have to pay the costs of AUD 229)

So I am trying to tell you guys what I did to make them change my phone. so good luck

Issue resolution (for me):

1. Backed up my iPad Air

2. Updated to iOS 7.1.2 via wired connection to my iMac / latest version of iTunes

3. Reset settings: General / Reset / Reset All Settings.

WiFi connectivity stabilized after reestablishing my settings. Battery percentage went from 97% to 100%. After a day's use, the battery discharged at a normal rate given usage. WiFi connectivity remains stable as of this a.m. (tested by connecting to three different networks; connectivity to all stable).
