bootcamp mavericks late 2009 imac.

Ok, for the past few days i have done alot of attempts at finding an exact answer to my problem, but to no avail. So hopefully as i describe it here , it could help get me pointed in the right direction.

I have a late 2009 imac, with Mavericks installed. I have tried installing windows 7 both 32 & 64, i get the partition done in bootcamp, reboot process etc , gets to windows install screen, but now when it searches for its first drivers it cannot find it and i am forced to exit out and go back to osx etc, and start researching another way to solve the problem.

I have read there is a problem with downloading the apple support software thru bootcamp, so ive done it from the website directly. Am i correct with the following here ,-- These files put on the thumb drive, are NOT the drivers for windows, they are to be installed after windows is installed. Right ?

Recently i read windows 7 cant be put on mavericks, but that was a thread related to a different computer and year than mine. So that lead to even more confusion. So apologies, but i do hope i can get a simple way to get this completed. I appreciate your time & help in advance.

--Edit -- I realized i posted this here , and it should of went into the bootcamp section, sorry.

Well, i have tried rebooting the comp, a few times now. With disk & usb in, with disk out & USB only in, as well as with both disk & USB out. But it still brings me to "Starting windows", for a few seconds, then goes back to all black screen (no flashing cursor line ) Just plain black screen and computer quiets down as well. But mouse light stays on.

I have tried this fix, as well, but it did not work either. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173

bad news maybe coming if the first one doesn't work

try this, what kind of mouse do you have? bluetooth? when you see the black screen, just keep clicking the mouse every few seconds basically trying to get windows to pick it up, don't stop i know it sounds painful but maybe do it for 2-3 minutes every 10 seconds or so

my fix - do you know if your windows iso has sp1? this is the first time i've seen your error, so if you're up to it, burn a new disc using the ISOs from earlier, that's the only thing we didn't do

apple fix - very strange, but did you delete windows and start again from scratch? i think you'll need to so during the process, windows can pickup the drivers during native installation

Im used to the bad news, but i know it is trial and error to fix these kind of problems that i am encountering.

I have a USB mouse, i have tried clicking the mouse, as well as space bar taps , Mouse movement also. I can try to make a new disk from the ISOs i dl'd last nite. I am unsure if SP1 is intergrated in the current windows 7 that i have attempted to install.

As for the apple fix, No i did not start it from scratch again. I only did the USB part of the fix. I will try again to do a removal of windows, and relaunch BCA to begin a new install, using the apple fix method.

Weird that you have not seen this problem before ? I seem to see a ton of threads about the issue , & black screen, but none with an actual resolvement.

Also if u can find out how i can mark your answer as the "correct" answer please let me know, there seems to be no option for me to do so, ive tried hi-liting, right clicking , etc.. but to no avail.

I have a few things to do here , but i will touch base with you after trying the fresh install again, thanks again ! Your time is appreciated!!!!!

I had to go get blank DVDs, as i couldnt find any new ones laying around here. First attempt tp burn the sp1 iso failed, so i re download the iso again, Burn, then begin fresh install with teh SP1 version u linked me to. So hopefully that will clear it all up. Will let you know in a few hours, as it is dinner time now also =0)

And it gives me 0 options to make your answer , as the response that helped me, But i will look into it more later on , and try to find how. According to that link i should have an option in lower left side , but i dont.

hey there,

-redownloaded because of the burning errors, i figured maybe there was some type of error.

Anyway, i tried a few things last nite , let me bring you up to date to the dilema.

4 attempts at burning the iso gave me an unable to burn error, all being done at the slowest speed as well.

, i attempted to use one of those, and it gets stuck on the windows install screen and gives error after a while.

So i tried burning this way https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6125899?tstart=0 as you pointed out to me earlier, i also thought i may of been burning them the wrong way. Thing is , when i make the .cdr & burn to disk, bootcamp cant find it , in order to begin windows install. From what ive read, OS wont read the .cdr.

Now day before, i was able to get windows actually installed,(the only burned iso that worked so far) and it rebooted a few times, during install. Then finally just stays on black screen for a while. Well I did that install again before sleeping last nite , got to the black scree, attempted the mouse clicks etc as u said. Then left it overnight while i slept, today i tried clicking mouse, & you can hear the computer, start up a bit, coming out of sleep i guess,, but then after a few moments, quiets down , and screen remains black. (no cursor top left, just black)

I keep going back and re-reading the posts etc, to make sure i made no mistakes as well. But this is getting tought to deal with, lol. But i did see that u said this here --"this question is key maybe why it isn't loading, after windows installed and you got to the desktop, windows told you to restart again, right, but gave you an option to restart later? iirc, you should have clicked setup.exe before running that restart."

^^ I never had an option to restart, or to click setup.exe, I guess i confused you when i said windows did install, I meant it went thru the install process almost complete, as opposed to the immediate, asking for drivers, and cant even begin the install, error that i was getting earlier.

I am going to look up a few more options, as i am not just making you do the legwork here lol. If you got any other options , let me know. Ill be trying this again now =0)

FINALLY !!!

Well, before burning another disk etc, and wasting more dvds, lol. I decided to search more about the black screen problem. I had viewed this page https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4598450?tstart=0 a few days ago, but didnt see how that main answer was - an actual answer, or how it solved that issue.

So i read further down, and seen this part.

"

JLEE1026

I've also encounter this same issue after getting my 27 iMac HDD replaced. None of the other driver downloads and what nots work. BUT..... here's what I ended up doing and worked perfectly.

1. Attached an external display while system in still in Mac OS and ensure that second display is showing my Mac OS desktop.

2. Reboot into Win7 OS (iMac display should remain blank).

3. You should see the final steps for Win7 OS installation on the external monitor.

4. Complete Win7 OS installation.

5. Launch Control Panels and go into Device Manager

6. Locate Display driver and update using the driver you've downloaded from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL995

7. As soon as the display driver is updated, your beautiful iMac display should now be mirroring what you see on your external display.

8. Install Bootcamp that came with the iMac (labled iMac Mac OS X Install DVD)

Done

Hope this helps....."

So basically i used the disk i used to get the install going the other day, and sure enough, when the time cam for the iMAC monitor to be all black, it was again. But the secondary monitor, gave me option to name the PC , connect to wifi, etc. ONLY thing i needed to do , was connect my secondary monitor, and while filling out the remaining info etc, the imac screen came on, once 3 updates were downloaded, but not installed yet. I have since then installed AVG, Firefox, and rebooted for the first set of 3 updates. And now the screen on imac works flawlessly, no delay etc. I gotta admit, you helped me out a ton, I want to try to get this so you have the "correct answer" as well as this final part i came across, as "the answer to help me".

Will come back to this forum in a bit, to try to figure it out

Apr 29, 2014 12:46 PM in response to turbostar

NOOOO PROBLEM !!... lol, and yea i also find it weird how the post in the thread about burning to .cdr , even tho it is a bootable image, you still need bootcamp to recognize the install disk, to begin the partitioning stage & alledgedlly it dont recognize the .cdr at all.

Im glad i took the time to read the rest of that thread with the black screen issue, maybe im just out of it, but first answer dont really make sense. , there is no solution there .

And yea i originally had the 2nd monitor set up, PRIOR, to getting an install to actually work, then i disconnected it, figuring maybe it was causing some type of problem by being connected.

But again, im sure others will come across this problem, as it is is not to uncommon, as i see from searches. Glad i can help , and definetly again apprecaite your help as well bro.
