Is an iPhone 5S a Class 1 Bluetooth capable device?

Chris is correct. Class 1 is equipped by very limited products like iPad ( not ipod or iphone ). Class 1 requires more power consumption than class 2 which cause lower battery life or bigger and heavier products. As long as the BT profiles are supported it doesnt matter about the bluetooth version. For example a headset supporting HFP ( Hands free profile ) and HSF ( headset profile ) will support both phone call and control regardless of the bluetooth version, as long as the profile is contained within both devices.
Communication range is NOT a specification, Class 2 0.25mW ~ 2.5mW power at 10 meters and Class 1 at 1mW ~ 100mW 100 meter. This is the AIM for BT products to accomplish.
