I am experiencing the SAME exact problem on the iPhone 5c. I've had this phone and it has worked perfectly until now... This week, the clocked started stopping and I kept losing wifi connections - causing my iMessage to stop working. I have missed numerous texts, and lost business opportunities because of this. My first step was to go to an Apple store - the technician at the Genius Bar instructed me to backup everything and wipe the phone clean. I took it to a Verizon store (my carrier) and they suggested getting a second opinion at a second Apple store. So tonight, the Genius Bar tech at a different store agreed that wiping my phone clean was my best bet. We did this process and did not restore a backup - we started a whole new OS (the most current updated one.) As I began loading my email accounts, apps, etc. back onto my phone, sure enough, the clock stopped and my wifi connection became unstable. If anyone has had any luck fixing this problem, please let me know. This is clearly an issue that is affecting MANY people with the iPhone 5c!!!

Can you pinpoint at what point during your manual reloading of apps and data the issue returned? If it wasn't happening when your device was clean, and then started happening again at some point during your manual "restore" of the device, then it is highly possible that something that was loaded onto the phone during that manual restore is causing the issue.

Do you have any sense of when that might have started occurring again during your restore process?

Ok so here is an alternative for time solution: Go to settings then general and auto lock. Set it to never. Set the correct time manually. After doing so, don't lock your screen. If u do, the time would reset to the one u set initially. Keep the phone unlocked and u will see the correct time. I did this to use the alarm and now i can sleep at night knowing that the alarm will ring the following morning. Only drawback is u don't get to lock your screen. Also, if u do lock your screen unlock it immediately so time would not be affected. Tell me if it works for u...

They can relplace it as an out of warranty replacement for a fraction of the cost:

Out-of-warranty* cost:

iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6 Plus: $329
iPhone 6s, iPhone 6: $299
iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5: $269
iPhone 4s: $199

iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G: $149

So, you have had your device for over a year? Did this just start happening, or has it been happening all along? Seems to me like when a hardware function has been identified that you clearly didn't break, it is rather unfair for you to replace it out of your own pocked... 😟

I'm never buying an apple product again. My iPhone 5c clock stopped working. Then iMessage stopped working. The phone has a hardware problem. Apple can't even fix it. They want me to buy another crappy phone. I will never buy an apple product again. The boss you around and think you are going to always buy their products. I hope their stock goes to zero. They completely ruined my day.

Identical problem and no answer.

I wonder if like on a pc motherboard there needs to be a battery that stores a small charge to keep a few things functioning when no battery is connected or its off, like a cmos battery?

My six penneth is that it loses data when off, but that doesn't account for the wifi dropping 😟 I am going to try reflowing the whole board so if anyone can point to a more specific component I would be grateful. Come on Apple!!!!!! you know the answer?

I would try a number of things:

1. Make sure "Set Automatically" is enabled under Settings → General → Date & Time

2. Try Settings → General → Reset → Reset All Settings

3. If all else fails, create a backup of the iPhone to either iCloud or iTunes and then restore the iPhone. After restoring, you'll want to temporarily set up the iPhone as "a new device" to see if you're still having the same issues under default settings. If the issue seems fixed at that point, attempt to bring back your backup. If the issue comes back with the backup, then the backup is corrupt and you'll need to set up as new.

I've been having the same problem since Monday. I bought this iPhone a little over a year ago.

I called Apple in my country and they said they had never seen this issue before. Come on! They lie. They don't care. It's a cheap phone.

I'Ve reset settings. Restored the phone. Synced it to my Macbook. All to no avail. Locking the phone causes this absurd clock issue. Turning automatic date and time adjustments on and off makes no difference.

It's impossible this is a carrier problem because I'm in Brazil. Totally different carrier. It's hard to believe this is a hardware problem too. What a big batch of bad iPhones they produced Also mine was bought in Brazil.

Did anybody have any success solving this issue?

I have the same problem with the time as well.

The clock updates normally if when in use.

After stand by mode it would be out of sync, with the time reading it had before it was set to stand by mode.

Restart the iPhone has been attempted; not working.

Set the time Automatically on and off numerous times; not working

Settings to reset all; not working

Attempting Factory reset.
