quicken for mac

I know there has been a lot of discussion about this subject...but I am new to Macs. I don't even know how to tell if I have lions, mnt lion, ect. on this mac! I thought it was ios something or other. So as you can see I am a novice and definitely on a learning curve. = )

I am a faithful user of Quicken for Windows and now want to continue using Quicken, but not hearing good things about Essentials at all.

My needs...

I have several accounts that I take care of, besides my own...and within those accounts are the usual, checking, savings, credit card, etc.

So I am trying to figure out my options. I don't even care if I have to start from scratch on my mac, so transfering data from windows to mac is not an issue!

thanks for any advice

The various flavors of OS X Snow Leopard, were released:

10.6.1 - September 10, 2009

10.6.3 - March 29, 2010

10.6.4 - June 15, 2010

10.6.7 - March 21, 2011

and

10.6.8 - June 23, 2011

OS X Lion was released on July 20, 2011.

Quicken 2007 for Intel Mac a/k/a Quicken for Lion was not released until February 2012.

What would possibly motivate you to reinstall all of these out of date versions of Snow Leopard and then attempt to run Quicken 2007 for Intel Macs? The better practice would be to advise the user to be sure he had the most up-to-date version of Snow Leopard, 10.6.8, for running Quicken 2007 and many other reasons!

I have OSX Yosemite 10.10.1. I had Quicken 2012 for an old PC that died. I need to put everything on my Mac starting with this year (I don’t need to go back). I’ve read some reviews of Quicken for Mac for 2015 and all are bad. What should I do? I also read that one person wrote:

So I run Quicken 2015 Premier for Windows by running it in a VMware Fusion 7instance. If you want to find out more about this process you can read my article: How to Run Quicken for Windows on a Mac.

What do you suggest?

Making comments about using Quicken 2007 for Intel Mac in a flavor of Snow Leopard, other than the latest and most stable version, 10.6.8, will only lead to confusion by aronwo89 and all others who read your post.

Here is the best information relevant to your post:

Quicken 2007 for Mac has been continuously upgraded for OS X compatibility, including Yosemite and now El Capitan.

You can obtain Quicken 2007 for Mac for $15 using the Intuit online chat function.

Use the chat feature for Quicken for Mac: Quicken 2007 for Lion: Shopping and Buying: Buying Quicken on the Quicken Support website page.

Be sure to use the Online Upgrade feature once you install it; as of this writing it is version 16.2.3

AVOID Quicken 2015 for Mac as it is a misleading upgrade of Quicken Essentials for Mac (and not Quicken 2007), which is generally loathed by all real Quicken for Mac 2007 and previous users! I purchased Quicken 2016 for Mac, when offered a discount by Intuit, and was generally underwhelmed by its capabilities compared to my continued use of Quicken 2007.

Here is their support article for converting your Quicken for PC data to Quicken 2007 for Mac:

The appropriate version of Quicken for Mac for you undoubtedly depends on how much of a power user of Quicken you are - in other words, how many of Quicken's features and nuances you choose to use.

I undoubtedly am less of a Quicken power user than MlchaelLAX. I have Quicken for Mac 2016 and use it and am completely satisfied. However, I also used and was happy with Quicken Essentials. Yes, both lack some features that were in Quicken for Mac 2007. But personally, for me in the case of Quicken, I would rather have a current product than a robust one.

Consider what is important to you.

I'm a 'lite' user of Quicken. And, I have it on my Windows computer. Before I fully move from Windows to Mac, I want to make sure all applications are available and work.

I might install Quicken on Mac, and then copy my Windows Quicken database, merely for testing. Then, in about a month, once I'm fully committed to Mac, full upgrade my Quicken database to work with the Mac version.

Thanks for the input.

MichaelLAX is completely correct in his evaluation on Quicken 2007. I was running 16.2.2 on Snow Leopard with great satisfaction, then got snookered into Q 2016 when I upgraded to Yosemite. All it told me during the OS upgrade was that the current versions I had of Quicken and Office wouldn't work in Yosemite. My error was in not doing some research before buying and installing Q 2016, which was God-awful compared to what I used to have. Fortunately the folks at Intuit gave me a refund and I then downloaded Q 2007, 16.2.3. Now I'm looking for confirmation that it will still work if I upgrade to El Capitan.
