I have just become patient and I don't care if it happens again (like it did this morning)
its it's not worth getting my panties in a twist
That's cool, but I was really trying to get the folks who are being hard on those who are frustrated to stop badgering them. If you can't vent about an Apple problem on Apple's forum, where can you?
For the record, I expect the bug to resurface for me at some point, and when it does, my panties are likely to twist a bit. Mostly because Apple is so maddeningly silent when it comes to acknowledging small issues like this.
And to those folks who defend Apple dragging their feet on fixing this particular bug, let's all understand that this is a security related issue. This is not like any other myriad problems with the ios platforms, this is a security related issue that is very visible to potentially millions of users. That said, if Apple is fine with this security-related bug existing in the wild, with nary a mention of a proposed fix, then what other security-related holes are in their software that they will "eventually get around to fixing"? The brightness controls in my ipad air 2 are behaving funky, so I have to leave brightness on manual, disabling auto adjust. That's an insignificant bug, something I can live with, something that doesn't affect the security of my device. This touch id bug is about security of my device. This bug means I have to key in my passcode more often than I would otherwise, creating an environment of reduced security. If this bug didn't affect so many users, you could understand Apple treating it mildly. But this is a highly visible failure of a security measure in ios software. What else isn't working properly in their security? This bug would have been easy to spot by their internal Q/A people, but they failed to find this. What else is out there that may be more hidden than this, that their slack Q/A people haven't found?
Yeah, it always strikes me as odd when individual users defend Apple here. To each his own I guess, but if Apple felt they needed defending here on their own forums, I think they'd probably do it themselves.
anyway, it seems like a security issue to me. Yes, there are bigger problems that are certainly more urgent, but this isn't a zero sum game. Or at least it shouldn't be.

but it is not decreasing security.
Opinions are a fun thing. My view is that personal security is diminished by this bug. Worse, something this visible just smacks of sloppiness in development and Q/A.

It's not an opinion, but yes, it is kinda fun.
How is security diminished?
I'd like to buzz in on this one, Alex...
It seems to me that anything related to TouchID or the passcode lock screen is security-related. However, more specifically, every time I have to enter my passcode in public, it increases the risk that it will be seen by another, and my security compromised.
Of course, that's just my opinion, and I'd love to hear yours. As a wise person once said:
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts."
With that in mind, I don't claim to be an expert, and I'm always ready to be enlightened.
do you have an exchange work email on your phone by chance? If so it may be part of the profile settings your company puts on the exchange server.
It has nothing to do with work profile settings. People are having this problem that have nothing tied to their phone except themselves.
tthat's true. There is no rhyme or reason for the 48 hour message. None. Which is an interesting slightly annoying (emphasis on slightly) occurrence.
Nothing that we can't tolerate but I'd love to know what the issue WAS when it's been fixed.
As I said previously, the bug seems to have retreated to the bowels of my iPad for the time being. I have no idea why. I didn't reboot, reset, restore, or update. And, for the record, I have no exchange accounts or anything enterprise related installed.
It's good that this thread is somewhat active. I like to believe that somebody somewhere is watching, although I have no reason to be optimistic in that regard.
But what happens when it asks for the passcode and then the device does not recognized it? factory reset the device? I guess until there is a fix there is an added importance to backup the device on a regular basis.
Having the exact same problem on my iPad iOS 9.1 and iPhone, same iOS. It is anoying as ****. Specially when you are certain it hasn't been more than 11 hours at the most. Problem is it does not happen all the time. It's kind of random.
I've had the same "48"-hour issue on iPhone, iPad, and iPad Mini for a while. It just pops up randomly, even if it's been just a few hours since last use. Today, on the other hand, the writing above the passcode entry box wasn't about "48 hours", but it was something along the lines of "you have to enter passcode to activate touch ID".
