Mac Pro SATA Performance Fixed under Windows XP

This gentlemen has been kind enough to set up a website on how to fix the SATA issues with the Mac Pro with XP. What is required is to slipstream the required SATA drivers into your XP disk prior to installing. Please follow the instructions on the page. You can ignore all parts except for the part pertaining to slipstreaming the drivers into the XP image.

Any questions feel free to ask. Works perfectly and is a workaround for F6 install method.

Drivers install and show up OK, supposedly in Ultra DMA Mode 4, but still transferring data @ 3.5Mb/s

Are sure thats not the dvd drive you are looking at as that was already in Ultra DMA Mode 4. What does the other primary channel say (you can check quickly in device manager by setting it to view by connection) ?

I just finished doing the install with the slipstreamed CD.

First off, I didn't follow the original persons list of files to include. A few of them are hacking/cracking tools to disable Windows XP registration system.

Second I didn't need to add the SP2 updates, since the CD I have is already a slipstream CD that included the SP2 updates.

I didn't add the security updates he listed, because they were referenced from an unknown web site. However you could add these if you wish by finding them at the Microsoft web site.

I did not add the Intel motherboard drivers, because bootcamp 1.1 already creates the needed drivers for you.

I did however add the SATA drivers (the 32 bit versions, since I am installing the 32 bit version of XP).

So in the end, my slipstreamed CD contained XP Professional with SP2 and Intels SATA drivers.

I then installed Windows XP on the Mac Pro following the standard install instructions given with Bootcamp.

Worked fine, The drive is operating at around the expected performance for the type of SATA drive I was using.

So, the individuals basic idea works well, I just ripped out all the unneeded stuff that was included in the instructions.

I only slipstreamed the chipset and the sata drivers. I used the bootcamp utility to first return the drive to single boot, and then used it to partition the drive (divided equally).

After windows was installed and i checked the hd speed i started installing all my usual apps.

There was a small problem, not sure if its isolated or not, but the soundcard was not detected and via googling i found that it was caused by installing the chipset before installing sp2. (All you have to do is right click the pci-device with the "?" and install the driver from the mac drivers cd)

A while ago when bootcamp was new I'd get errors when i didn't format the partition using the bootcamp utility so i got into a habit of doing it the way I did.

Success,

Much the same experience as Tom Nelson1, though it took me a couple attempts to make a properly working install disk.

I ended up selecting both esb2 AHCI and RAID drivers having only selected just the raid driver per instructions for a pio install.

I never did get bootcamp assistant to run. It must be my raid 0 boot setup. Instead i grabed the driver dmg from the assistant package contents and added its contents to the install disk.

It worked great for me. I slipstreamed only the SATA driver and Chipset Drivers into my SP2 disc pretty much following the guys instructions. I used nLite with no problems.

After the install finished, I did have to point the missing PCI Device to the WDM Sound driver (in the Macintosh Drivers folder). Then everything was fine.

Hard drive performance is now as expected, UDMA Mode 6. HD Tune shows between 50-60 MB/sec.

I hope that when the Apple solution comes out I don't have to re-install again. I'm running out of activation attempts with XP 😟
