OS 9.2.2 wont Install with OSX

I have a harddrive that was partitioned with OSX (10.3) on one half and OS 9.2.2 on the other. I reformatted the OS9 partition for a clean install and now when I put the OS9 install disk in and hold down the C key for booting, it will bypass the disk and start up in OSX. Now the computer just boots in OSX. How can I bypass this and get OS9 to load on that partition? Thanks.

Mac OS 9.2.2 was never sold or produced into a retail version.

The user has to call directly to Apple HQ for availability and pay whatever fees are needed for shipping. In order to get the right CD package for the machine, the user will need to have the serial number available.

Any attempts to go through any 3rd party sources, may produce unpredictable results because of how special Mac OS 9.2.2 is to a specific machine as they cannot use any earlier Mac OS.

Hi RunLogan!

Although not related to this Topic, you might find the info here How to post a link (URL) in "Apple Discussions", useful.

As a courtesy to the Discussions Hosts, if you implement that technique, there won't be a need for them to edit your posts. This will alleviate their tedious workload.

Using that method, your link could have looked something like this
Mac OS 9.2.2 & 10.2.6 DVD for PowerMac G4 MDD(Bootable).

Have Fun! And Good Luck With The G4!

RunLogan...

I have advised against going thru any 3rd party sources for some very good reasons.

Although it isn't my money or my computer, however, if it would be mine, I doubt
I could sleep at night or worry that every system glitch would be related to some
possible flaky software.

Edit: Readability fixes for a run-away URL.

Ron:
In this case for Mac OS 9.2.2, Apple, is the only place that I know of that can do the serial
number matching for the correct / specific 9.2.2 version.
Indulge me a moment as I try to further my education. I am aware that computer specific software is optimized for a specific computer e.g. 12" G4 PowerBook. However, are you saying that software is not only specific to a computer model but to a serial number? Or is the serial number essentially to identify the computer's model?

Thanks.

Quite frankly a bit of everything holds some truth to it. (What you stated above)

The serial number should also reflect if the specific Mac came with a CD-RW, Combo, or SuperDrive, or model specific options for that date.
