Which HDD of 500GB and 700 GB are compatible with the MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro from my daughter's diagnosis was found to be defective HDD Toshiba 500GB.

When upgrading OS X Mavericks pictures on a MacBook Pro froze. Diagnostics in Apple dealer in Croatia - Zagreb is found to be defective HDD.

Interested me, Does any SATA III, HDD 2.5 ", 5400 RPM, 9.5 or 7 mm or larger capacity (750GB, 7200 RPM) can be installed in a Mac Book Pro. MacBook Pro is manufactured 2009 years and was acquired 2011 years.

Can you write that are compatible HDD (500GB model and 750GB model) with the MacBook Pro.

Today I called a few stores and Apple Authorized Service Provider in my country, Croatia. All they told me, whether from ignorance or do not know why ... Do I have to buy only original HDD to Apple because we second HDD my MacBook Pro will not recognize. I do not know what to do. HDD 2.5", 750GB, 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM, 8 or 16 MB of Cash in the IT shop costs around 60 USD, while the Apple service costs 150 USD. Now what to do, buy a SATA III drive 2.5" in the IT shop or twice as expensive as the Apple service. Please help me !!

Has anyone tried to put the MacBook Pro HDD drive that is not branded with the Apple label. And if there were any problems with the disc recognition by the MacBook Pro.

Thank you all for your help.

mrgud28,

Apple doesn't manufacturer any of the drives that are put in their computers - in most cases, the hard drives are Toshiba. Scores of us have replaced the hard drive with a faster, larger capacity drive or a SSD - and Apple doesn't care (which is why your experience baffles me).

It's quite easy to install your own hard drive - as much room as you need and at whatever speeds available. Apple acknowledges that on older (pre-Retina) machines that the memory and the hard drive can and will be, eventually, be replaced by the consumer.

Forget about what the Apple Store folks are saying and just install whichever drive you prefer.

Good luck,

Clinton
