Which HDD of 500GB and 700 GB are compatible with the MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro from my daughter's diagnosis was found to be defective HDD Toshiba 500GB.

When upgrading OS X Mavericks pictures on a MacBook Pro froze. Diagnostics in Apple dealer in Croatia - Zagreb is found to be defective HDD.

Interested me, Does any SATA III, HDD 2.5 ", 5400 RPM, 9.5 or 7 mm or larger capacity (750GB, 7200 RPM) can be installed in a Mac Book Pro. MacBook Pro is manufactured 2009 years and was acquired 2011 years.

Can you write that are compatible HDD (500GB model and 750GB model) with the MacBook Pro.

OK, formatting the drive via USB should be fine - did you install a version of OS X on it before putting the drive back in the drive bay?

If you did, and it's still not working, I'm betting that your SATA cable is faulty. The Apple Part #: 922-9034. You can find one here -> http://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2009-Hard-Drive- Cable/IF161-039 or search on eBay, using the part number to search, and find one cheaper.

Only try the replacement cable if you've installed a version of OS X on the drive. If you haven't, try that.

Yes, I installed the HDD OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks and he regularly works via a USB port, but not via a SATA cable. On the SATA cable does not see HDD.

The Apple service center in Croatia told me that the HDD is broken and I need to buy a new one with them (160 USD). I bought a new one for only 55 dollars, but unfortunately, it looks like it went SATA cable. So much for Apple's service in Croatia. Yes, and I paid 25 diagnostic USA. (They told me that the HDD is broken),,, no, the HDD is 100% correct. I think it went SATA cable. But now I have a new HDD excess?

Thank you so much Clinton !!

I'm almost 100% certain that you've a faulty SATA cable - can you order from the UK eBay? You could always search for a cable there and the instructions for installing it are on ifixit as well -> http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2009+Hard+Drive+Cabl e+Replacement/1716.

Can you return some of those drives? If not, you could always purchase enclosures for them and use them for cloning backups (I have five clones in my backup scheme).

To my chagrin, I can not go back to the store a single HDD, and that's to shame Apple service in Croatia, who have a "certificate" to repair Apple products, no school, "cursor". I'm angry at them.

Thank you very much for your help Clinton. I am a IT engineer, but I'm retired military and doing repairs on iPhones and computers based on Windows platforms. This MacBook Pro is my daughter who is studying in a different city (200 km away from me). She brought it to the Apple service, and after their diagnosis and charge "$ 35", I asked her to send me your Mac. She bought a new HDD believing service.
I'm angry!
