How can I disable my dvd drive?

DVD is physically stuck and I want to diable the dvd writer

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), DVD is physically stuc

Yep there are always trade offs.

If I was the OP I'd try setting the preferences to Ignore first and see if that made a difference.
