updated itunes 11.2 crashes after opening

So, I recently updated my itunes when prompted to the new 11.2 version from 11.1.5, and afterwards it no longer opened without crashing! It would bounce, open for a few seconds, and crash. Before this upgrade I have never had a problem with itunes, which I've been using for years.

I tried uninstalling, restarting my computer, and installing it again. Read through all the forums I could find but no one seemed to have much else to suggest other than deleting and doing it over, which I had already done. Then I even upgraded to Maverick 10.9.3 because someone said that had worked for them (I had been operating on 10.6.8). I love Maverick, but itunes still has the same problem!! Only now I can't uninstall it to try a re-install because it says it "itunes cannot be modified or deleted because it's required by OS X". When I try to re-install anyway it says there's a newer version already installed and won't go forward.

I tried running disk utility, and saw itunes did need a permission repair, so I clicked repair, but I'm not sure anything even happened. It just ran and ran and then stopped running. I did that about 10 times but itunes still won't open. It just bounces, opens for a second, and crashes again. Mocking me.

Please help! What have I not done yet? Or what am I doing wrong? Or how can I delete itunes and run again?

Would running it Safe Mode do anything?

Thanks 😁

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), itunes

Yeah it seems to crash immediately as soon as I turn Match on, SOOO why am I paying for a service that makes itunes stop workin?. And as soon as you turn match on Genius also starts sending data. I believe it is Genius that is causing the app to crash due to some hardcoded timeout within it.

I've always had much faith in Apple products until now. This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! If this app were a bridge, every **** car would have drove off the end and into the lake by now. QA this **** poor would not pass in any other industry. it's a completely defective product now

That works for me as well. But I have a large library of tunes and podcasts that gat deleted, along with the play count. I've been collecting for years, and I'd like to keep that information. So removing that file is to drastic for me.

Does this mean that iTunes 11.2, 11.2.1, 11.2.2 have a different structure for the Library.itl file or has the Library.itl file itself become corrupt?

So I just figured out today my Issue which I suspect is the same, rather than rebuild your libraries etc. (I Have done it 8 times now and spent over 40 + hours doing it) I found today if I disable Podcasts this has now enabled me to use the rest of this bloated old application at least. I have sent over 68 Messages to Apple through the crash report as well as the Beta Testing site and have not received a single reply that they acknowledge the issue even. Not very Apple like!

Prior to the last iTunes update, I never searched to see if anyone was having issues with iTunes after installing it.

With the last update, like many on this forum, I could not log into iTunes and it appeared I had lost my entire library.

I tried the fixes suggested on this forum to no avail.

I am seriously NOT tech savy.

I called Apple support fully expecting them to fix it because it was their update that caused the crash.

They wanted to charge me for the support since it was more than a year since I purchased my iphone.

I was pretty unhappy camper. However, my SO had just purchased an iphone so I used that serial number and lo and behold

instant support.

It took a phone call to one of their special tech support experts to restore my iTunes and it took him over 1.5hrs on the phone with me.

So, I will not be downloading this new version. Do not want to go thru this again.

Becoming a bit disillusioned as this seems to becoming a common issue with the updates.

Thanks. Works for me! iTunes 11.2.2.3 on Win 8.1.

Have yet to try accessing internet for podcasts, etc.

Solution that 'worked' above was...

Then I did the following, and now my iTunes is working WITH internet on:

I went into Edit->Preferences and disabled everything internet related:

General -> Auto retrieve CD Track names

Store -> Unchecked everything except Auto downloads for MUSIC APPS BOOKS (I thought I unchecked it..)

Parental -> Unchecked Show content ratings in library

So, library looked normal until internet access features were re-activated.Then things went downhill. Crashes returned. Library content disappeared - went from hundreds of podcasts and songs to about 20 and 12 respectively. Recovered library content files manually from a backup - rebuilt library. But playlists gone. Tried several solution from this site and others. Still no playlists. Along the way library content disappeared again. Accessing Match seems to be at the core of the problem and the trigger for losing content.

i have tried everything that has been listed here to try and fix my crashing tines when i plug my iPhone 5 in to backup and sync. so far nothing has worked, i have no problems before this new update and now nothing is working as it should be. I'm asking my self how come apple has not realised that there is a report coming through when i click send report that there is a problem surely there is enough reports coming from all the mac users letting them know that there is a problem that needs fixing with the iTunes system.

so is there anyone else still having problems with there iTunes after completing all these adjustments, have you found a solution that works please let me know.

After downloading the newest patch ...11.3, I believe it was, in extreme eager anticipation of having full Itunes functionality again..... It's EVEN WORSE!!!!! At least I could use my Match on the last release if I turned off Genius. Now anything with access to the Itunes Store causes it to crash. Seriously ***? I can't even go back to the earlier release.

I am having this problem too, 2-3 second after clicking the icon to launch Itunes the itunes window come up, count to 3 and i get a windows message saying that itunes has stoped working. how i can worked around it is with 2 ways.

1) you can try to start Itunes in safe mode by holding control and shift at the same time and clicking the icon.

2) When the Itunes window comes up, hover over the edit option and when you are able to click. click it and go to the bottom preferences.

for some reason that i dont know or understand that seems to do the trick.

I prefer Method 2 because with method 1 sometimes it doesnt launch in safe mode and it regular launched and crashes because i was not ready to click lol.

I hope this helps out.

hello, I have the same problem (windows7pro).

I found a temporary solution, waiting for Apple to fix the problem.

Hold down shift + ctrl while launching iTunes. It works for me. It should avoid loading the plugins, but I have not loaded plugins. I have not read the whole thread, and I apologize if someone has already suggested it.
