Issues transferring Audiobooks using Overdrive to iPhone after update

I am wondering if anyone might have a solution to my problem. Yesterday, I updated iTunes to the latest and greatest as well as my iPhone 5s. It had been about 2 months since I had updated so I was not way out of date. I received some sort of error on my iPhone and it forced me to reinstall to factory settings and then I had to restore from the backup I took just prior to trying to update. When I had to reinstall to factory settings and restore, I lost my audiobooks that I had checked out of the library and loaded (no issues with prior audiobook transfers). I went to the library, checked the books out again and can no longer load them to my iPhone. Parts will load but not all of it.....actually, most of the parts will not load.

I have uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled.

I have uninstalled Overdrive and reinstalled.

I deleted the books from Overdrive and downloaded them from the library again before trying again to Transfer them to my iPhone.

None of this has worked and I am getting very frustrated.

Here is what I am using:

Overdrive Media Console - Version 3.3.0.0

iTunes - Version 11.2.2.3

iPhone 5s - Version iOS 7.1.1

All say they are the latest versions.

Any idea what I can do to get my audiobooks loaded?

Also wanted to add..........I tried to load the audiobooks to my iPhone 4 that I still have that has not been upgraded to iOS 7. I had the same issues with the iPhone 4 as I had with the iPhone 5s. Therefore, I don't believe the issue is related to the phone. I believe it is either iTunes or Overdrive related.

Overdeive support was able to answer the question about the issue..................

Thank you for contacting OverDrive. We apologize for the issue you're having when transferring WMA audiobooks to your iOS device. Errors with WMA transfers to iOS 7 devices started showing up when Apple released the most recent update to iTunes (v11.2.0.115).

While the audiobooks may look like they are transferring to your iOS 7 device, iTunes cannot find the converted audiobook files that you've tried to transfer, so they won't make it to your device. Our developers are currently looking into a possible workaround for this issue.

Note: OverDrive recently announced an initiative to discontinue the WMA format in favor of MP3 audiobooks, which are much more compatible across devices. We're working with publishers to get this done, but do not have a specific completion date.

If you would like us to remove the title from your account so you can borrow the MP3 version (if available), please let us know.

If there's anything else we can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Bob, I'm glad my post helped you. At least you now know to stop spending any time trying to load wma books. As for Overdrive, I emailed the support group at my library. They have been very quick to respond and help me any time I have had questions so I thought they would be a good place to start. The guy at the library contacted Overdrive and Overdrive responded to him and he passed the info on to me. Overdrive was very quick to respond. From the time I sent my first email to the library to the time I had a response from Overdrive was only about an hour.

I really hope that Overdrive does discontinue wma books and only has mp3's soon. The MP3's can be listened to using the Overdrive app on my phone. However, I suspect I will lose the ability to check out a book when it is available, load it to my phone and then listen when I am ready because I suspect that listening on the app, the book will expire at the end of it's checkout period.

I have had mixed results with MP3 versions. I checked out 2 MP3 books. One transferred with the latest version of Overdrive for Windows 7 wit6h no problem and the other didn't. I didn't try a 2nd time. Instead, I am using the Overdrive app to listen to the MP3 books. This works well and also saves my location in the book better than listening to books using my Music app that comes installed on iPhones. However, I assume that the book will expire when using the Overdrive app so this prevents me from being able to load a book when it is available and listen when I am ready.......especially when I am listening to a series.

There will have to be an update from either Overdrive or iTunes to get these issues fixed. I suspect it will be put on Overdrive to make the nexessary upgrade once they figure out a solution. I will update here if I find that a fix is available.

I don't want to keep bugging my library tech guy either. He was awesome getting in touch with Overdrive and getting the original answer. At this time, I am using my Overdrive App on my iPhone. Unfortunately, this limits me to only being able to listen to MP3 books and I have to make sure I listen before it expires.

While I would like to see Overdrive get a fix in, I don't put this all of them. For instance, Apple could allow their iPhones, iTouch, iPad support/play .wma files, but they don't. They also could work together with those who interface with their iOS. I realize they probably can't do this with everyone but it seems like they would work with some of the really large companies that affect a lot of users like Overdrive. Do they release a new iOS to them so they can test their software and see if it will still work with their upgrade?

Until the issue is resolved, I think the only thing any of us can do is use the Overdrive App and only listen to mp3 books.
