My Macbook Pro is going extremely slow. Please help

Hi. My macbook pro that I purchased in 2010 has been running extremley slow the past few months. Especially when I run anything like spotify or netflix. My computer gets extremley hot to the point I can probably flip it over and cook eggs on it!! The fan is extremley loud! It is extremley slow compared to how it was when i first purchased this bad boy. It has even crashed a few times this week and when I turn it back on it gives me a message saying it crashed because of a system error or something like that. I ran an etreCheck but I dont know exactly how to understand it. Can anyone help me out?

- Calm down, you forgot to uninstal lthe google updater: do it again.

run an etrecheck list and in the LaunchAgents and in the LaunchDaemons the google.keystone entries should be gone.

-- In Safari Preferences Extensions: uninstall the DivX extension.

-- Can you do a day without the Cisco VPN: if you can, uninstall it completely.

Restart, and see what happens.

Hi Lex. Its running a bit better but last night it still reached up to 300 degrees while watching ne ..tf lix. Whats the difference in updating from the app store and that link?

no i do not have a backup, but i don't really need it to update do i?

1. 300°F is higher than the safety switch off. It should have switched off long before that. How do you measure that?

2. Backup: if you do not mind loosing all your data, you don't have to make backups. A lot is already in the cloud perhaps. But still, we here are backup "freaks" and advise two or three backups.

3. When it is heating: run Activity Monitor, click the %CPU column, and it will display from high to low (otherwise click again), then make a screen grab of the top ten.

4. Ofcourse there can be a hardware failure. Let's see.

Cmon man. 300 degrees is obviously an exaggeration. Regardless it gets very hot and the fans go at hyper speed. I'm looking at iStatPro and the actual temperature is 157 degrees farenheit. for the cpu and the fan is at 5000 rpm

how could i tell if there is a hardware failure?

It might ask you to boot into the recovery disk by restarting your computer holding down command R

Go to Disk Utilitty And click on repair disk.

this always works for me when my mbp is slow.

I have never seen a MBP where the fans are over 6000 RPM, I think that is the absolute maximun.

that is not really hot or abnormal, but depending on the room temperature.

It is not really wise I think to overkill your claims of an issue: works counterproductive.

The MBP just switches off when too hot. The fans running more than say 3000-4000RPM is a bit curious.

iStatpro is not compatible anymore with Mavericks, I am told, although I could not find anything wrong with it.

Is the MBP really slow still, or is it more the temperature / fanspeed that worries you?

Did you ever install "tools", like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, Keepmemory, Memorykeeper, and so on? Tell me even if you have them uninstalled.

I can screenshot you the iStatPro to prove the fans are running over 5000rpm. If iStatPro isn't accurate anymore then do you know of another program that can show the rpm?

also I have never installed any of those programs.

The computer is still running slow whenever i do anything strenuous like open Spotify, iPhoto, logic. Even pages seems to be strenuous,
