Will an iPad 2 be upgradable to iOS 8?

I have an iPad first gen that only was upgradable to iOS 5.11. I am thinking about getting a refurbished 2nd Gen. Will that be upgradable to iOS 8 when it comes out this Fall, or should I look for a newer refurb gen like a 3rd or Air?

iPad, iOS 5.1.1

Apple moving to iOS 8 is not a mistake, but what Apple has done from the time of the beginning iOS and iPhone (now iPads) 7 years ago, to now. Apple has NEVER gone backwards in their iOS upgrades and they never will. Look forward and not backward.

I stated that The user should be able to roll back to the earlier ios. Apple did allow it for awhile but now does not. You twist words and cause chaos, That is why I said that it is not pleasant having you running around here. You don't even take the time to read let alone fully comprehend what others are saying.

It could, It depends on the situation. I have helped many and learned as well. But you have created a very linear direction of dialogue, It is not feasible to continue responding to you. I wish you had the ability to stop and see what you are actually accomplishing. But you can not. quite sad indeed.

I understand that you're giving people false information.

Apple has NEVER allowed people to roll back an upgrade to an earlier system. Apple does NOT support doing so and has never supported doing so. You're the one who is sewing CHAOS here by trying to tell people that Apple has done so and that it's such a problem that they won't let them do so now (when Apple has NEVER done so).

The only problem with "your assessment" is that NO OTHER USER agrees with you, to the point of where they have awarded you a single point for helping them.

I would say that this indicates a problem in your thinking.

I see nothing in that article that indicates the "size of the problem". We know from posts here that there are some users having a problem, but there is no indication anywhere that it's any more than a very small minority. And some here have solved their problems. For a few others, Apple may release a fix that may help them, if their problem is related to that fix. For others, they will probably have to reset theit iOS devices to factory default to cure it.

Again, there's nothing here showing any kind of major problem affecting even a simple majority of users.

For those very few still having problems, we'll keep working on it in this forum.

Now it is very obvious that you are either uninformed in a major way or a "Troll". I do know what I am talking about and you obviously got points for some random anomaly in the cosmos. Notice it say "anymore" as in it was before. I know several that did while it was possible.

That's like saying that a store near you stopped allowing you to "dumpster-dive" in their trash bin, because they started locking up the trash area ... LOL ...

The FACT OF THE MATTER is that the store NEVER ALLOWED you to dumpster-dive ... you just snuck in there when no one was looking and did it any way. When the store locked up their trash bin, you got mad .,, :-) ...

The FACT OF THE MATTER is that Apple has NEVER ALLOWED ANYONE to revert to an earlier system, and they have NEVER SUPPORTED IT. The fact that some people were SNEAKING AROUND APPLE makes them SNEAKS but does not make it that "Apple allows this".

AND since Apple LOCKED THEIR DOOR the "SNEAKS" get mad!

So you are going with the "Troll" option. I can see you are enjoying this far too much and points or not they should remove you from minimum this topic, more proactive would be to remove you entirely. You can not admit fault and therefore you only minus from any real help. That little scenario you pasted too me telling me it was what I was in the middle of?? You have no clue, And I was fortunate to not upgrade my ios so far so I am ok. I would not in any way or form suggest someone upgrade to 8 if they can help it for now. Especially on ipad 2. No need to thank me your silence is the nicest gift you have to offer.

There are people who would say to me (in similar fashion as you do) when I say, "You are not allowed to run red lights!" ... They would say, "I see people running red lights all the time, and now the cops are trying to stop me from doing so, and that's unfair!"

OR others who would say to me, when I say "You are not allowed to speed through at 50 MPH in a school zone!" ... They would say to me, "People have done that a lot and no one stopped them, but I got stopped when I did it! They are trying to stop me from doing what others have done!"

OR another one like you would say to me, when I say "You are not allowed to take these illegal drugs!" ... They would say to me, "I know a whole lot of people who take these illegal drugs without any problem, but when I did it, the cops threw me in jail! That is so unfair!"

THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE is mixing up "what you can get away with, by sneaking around" ... compared to ... "what you are allowed to rightfully do".

I would suggest you get that straight before proceeding further into this subject.

One would assume Apple would only rush out a new fix if it affected a large number of people with IPad 2's ?

How how embarassing for those that have lambasted anyone who dares state there has been a problem with latest iOS rollout for iPad 2 users.

There is a huuuge problem with iOs 8 updates. ⚠

My iPad 2 did download the iOS 8.1.1 update, but wouldn't install it because it kept saying there was no internet connection...while I was browsing on Safari about the problem. So, I tried to update from iTunes, a solution highly recommended by Apple Support and by the community...what a mess!!

First, iTunes downloaded and prepared the update - the iPad had already done that - then it said the update was 1.31GB against the 121MB listed in the iPad; no matter. I launched the update; it didn't work and gave me an Unknown Error 3004. 😠

I then disconnected the iPad from the laptop, but the iPad screen stayed fixed on a black screen with an image of the iPad's plug and an arrow pointing to the iTunes icon. I replugged the iPad into the laptop...where it said the iPad had to be reformatted...WTH?!?!? 👿

I tried even that, in the end, but it always gave me the Unknown Error 3004...and now the iPad 2 is stuck on the blackscreen with the image of the iPad's plug and an arrow pointing to the iTunes icon; even if I turn the iPad off and rebooth it, the screen stays stuck on that. 😢

Will an iPad 2 be upgradable to iOS 8?
