Bluetooth and Mac Pro problem

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster...anyhow, I just recently received my Mac Pro and I'm having some issues with my mice. First, my wireless bluetooth mighty mouse (purchased earlier) has unbelievably poor range now. My Mac Pro is about 2.5 to 3 feet from my desktop and I literally have to move the mouse all the way to the left-side edge of the desk (closer to the tower) to prevent the mouse from acting erratically. I'm not a lefty, so this makes it all the worse. When I bring the mouse close to the tower, apparently all is well.

Second problem is with my included, wired Mighty Mouse which is just acting oddly. The cursor dances all over the place. I have tried resetting the machine, reinstalling drivers...all to no avail. The thing just keeps moving with a mind of its own. Anyone else having similar problems with either Bluetooth range or wired mouse issues?

Thanks 🙂

I need help. I used to have the MM and keyboard working fine with the bluetooth, but recently it started giving the problems as described after I moved the desktop underneath my desk (skipping and lagging mouse issues). I changed the batteries a 100 times but realized it was the issue you guys were having.

Now I opened the Mac and did as described, but I couldnt get the second long cable to connect onto the pin on the bluetooth chip (no airport). i believe I put too much force and screwed up the little socket. So I had no choice but to cut off the tip of the unlabeled longer wire and remove the bluetooth and connect them up close and personal. Then I put it back and crimped the tip of the wire and soldered them back together.

Now in retrospect, this was just plain stupid, but I did it in a fit of anger and now I don't know what to do. I believe the soldering may have been a bad idea because the wire may be with fibers rather than a metallic substance. SO basically, I'm in trouble. Any suggestions as to replacing the wire as a whole? Where do the wires come from? Or should I just replace the original BT wire and accept the issues with it? thanks in advance.

I also have this problem on a new Macpro. After Applecare would not send someone round for an onsite repair, I have just made them order a replacement machine.
I think it's stupid to have to send the machine away to fix two incorrectly placed cables. If the new one arrives with the same problem I will do the same again too.
Will I be able to swap my original hard drive into the new one when it arrives? How do I keep all my original installs I have done on the faulty macpro? I am thinking all my authorised Native Instrument plugins (FM8, Battery3, Absynth 4, Pro 53 and B4 Mk2). They are authorised on the the faulty macpro. Do I need to de authorise them or can I just swap the drives or copy the partition.
All the best.
Vinny.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Apple sent me my replacement machine and everything to do with the Bluetooth Module is working just fine out of the box.
So, to anwer my own questions on this issue, yes, Macpro's are leaving the factory set up correctly and not all new Macpros have this problem.
Now enjoying my new computer 🙂
All the best.

I ordered a new mac pro last week from apple and just got it today, and discovered the same bluetooth problems everyone here was having. So I changed the wires as mentioned in the fix here, and everything is working great.

So some new mac pros are still shipping with this problem as mine is brand new. But all is well as the fix posted here works perfectly.

I called Apple tech support today about this problem on my new 8 Core MacPro. I can't believe it's been 9 months, and they still don't have an official solution for this problem! They are still making new macs with this defect!

I talked to two different techs, and they don't know anything about it. They want to swap out my whole mac for a new one, just because one cable in the BT module is in the wrong place.

I tried to point the techs to this thread, but they wouldn't even look because it's not "official apple support".

How blind will they choose to be?

I followed the instructions left by bosmacs, but my labels were different. 1 was hooked up to airport upper. 3 airport lower. BT to Bluetooth. I sent 1 to the Blue tooth module and couldn't get the small cable that was tucked behind the mother board (2) to connect to the upper connection...but I decided to boot up without a cable connected to the upper to see what would happen and everything works just fine, BT problem remedied. I'm wondering now, what the upper connection is for. Maybe grounding??? Just thought I'd add my two cents as your posts helped me to overcome bluetooth issues of my own.

If anyone has more information on these connections, please post.

FWIW, my 8-core Mac Pro purchased late June 2007 has the "BT" wire connected to the bluetooth module. So it doesn't look like Apple has made any changes to how they wire the machine. From the label, it's pretty clear that the BT wire is intended to be the bluetooth antenna. I agree with a previous poster who speculated that the #1 wire is a better antenna that's intended for the Airport module, and that when connected to the bluetooth module it provides a very nice boost in reception quality/range.

I found this thread because today I experienced problems with my wireless keyboard for the first time (sluggish response and multiple/repeated letters like ttttthis). My battery level in the keyboard is down to 70%, and the keyboard is about 5 feet from the Mac Pro, so maybe I've reached a critical combination of battery power and distance.

Hi,

I've been suffering from this exact same issue since I changed computer desks a couple of months ago. Where before my keyboard and mouse were no more than 1ft from the Mac Pro and always worked perfectly, now they are approx 3ft and are giving me fairly constants issues (erratic behavior as described numerous times up the thread).

I don't actually need a wireless mouse/keyboard, so I'm wondering if Apple might swap mine for one of the new wired flat keyboards..?

Martin.
