Bluetooth and Mac Pro problem

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster...anyhow, I just recently received my Mac Pro and I'm having some issues with my mice. First, my wireless bluetooth mighty mouse (purchased earlier) has unbelievably poor range now. My Mac Pro is about 2.5 to 3 feet from my desktop and I literally have to move the mouse all the way to the left-side edge of the desk (closer to the tower) to prevent the mouse from acting erratically. I'm not a lefty, so this makes it all the worse. When I bring the mouse close to the tower, apparently all is well.

Second problem is with my included, wired Mighty Mouse which is just acting oddly. The cursor dances all over the place. I have tried resetting the machine, reinstalling drivers...all to no avail. The thing just keeps moving with a mind of its own. Anyone else having similar problems with either Bluetooth range or wired mouse issues?

Thanks 🙂

Greetings Everyone,

I brought home a new Mac Pro today. The store installed the Bluetooth radio for me just a few hours ago. I open up the machine and cannot connect to my keyboard/mouse unless they were sitting on the machine. The mouse did not work well at all and I was ready to throw in the towel. Luckily I found this forum and took a look at the problem. My wiring was labeled well. 1,2,3,4 and BT were all present. BT was connected to the BT radio. I disconnected that and connected "1" to the radio. Bluetooth now works perfectly. I do not have the airport express module but I can see 2,3 are definately for the AE. Hope this helps someone.

I received my MacPro today and I find the BT wire is still connected to bluetooth module.

The MM is NOT as responsive as my old Microsoft mouse. I called Apple HK and they told me that they do not receive any complain from any user.

And finally I did the same as other users in the forum, and my mouse is now working much much better and the receiving distance is at less 2 to 3 times longer. Bedfore that, one of the wall will block the BT signal and there is no such problem after connecting wire 1 to bluetooth module.

Thanks to all for the apparent solution to the Bluetooth/Mac pro issue. This has been a problem ever since I received my new system. Wasted many hours on tech support. It's hard to believe that apple Care support is totally unaware of the issue! I even offered to give this web link to them, but they were'nt interested.

I have found that my system, which includes an Airport Extreme Card, Bluetooth card, and Airport Extreme N router, would not work properly with the antennas re-routed as previously described. The Extreme N would work, but the signal was weak, slowing music streaming and internet connections. My system works far better if wired as follows. (The bluetooth mouse is perfect, the airport extreme N has full signal strength to the MAC, and my entire network signal is improved).

Antenna lead #1 (unlabeled in some systems) goes to the Bluetooth
Antenna lead #2 (as labeled) goes to the LOWER Airport connector
Antenna lead #3 (as labeled) goes to the UPPER Airport conector
Antenna lead BT (unlabeled in some systems) is unhooked

Hope this helps other frustrated users,
KRB

Folks,

I found this thread courtesy of Kirk McElhearn. I just ordered a Mac Pro, with Bluetooth and the Airport, plus a wireless keyboard and mouse. Is it accurate to say that the issue is ONLY with the mouse, and not the keyboard or the Airport?

I tried calling Apple Tech Support to ask them about this issue, and they weren't aware of it, nor were they interested in any details. Pretty **** disappointing. I was halfway considering canceling the order.

Since I DIDN'T cancel, I guess I need to be prepared to fix this on my own when it gets here (or just end up using an aftermarket wireless mouse and my old Apple hard wired keyboard). Since I am an utter electronic idiot, is it obvious where, inside the case, these wires reside? Has anyone taken any pictures of what it looks like in there?

Thanks in advance.

Don't convince yourself that you will have a problem with BlueTooth until your Mac Pro arrives and you know for sure. I think it's better to have a positive attitude and expect a good outcome.

But, if you just want to prepare yourself to know where to go for answers, there's a link to the bluetooth wires diagram and a link to the video of the BlueTooth wires in this very thread you are replying in. Also, search the forum for BlueTooth and I'm sure you will find more information.

If you are very uncomfortable with tasks inside your Mac, I suggest you have someone at your local Apple Store, or authorized service provider look at the BlueTooth connection. If you should damage something, it might void your warranty. I'm very comfortable doing simple stuff like hard drives, RAM, video cards in the Macs and PCs I own. But tiny wiring in tiny spaces I leave to the experts.

I have a tendency to collect USB input devices. I always save my old ones that I try and decide I don't like or after finding something better. (They come in handy for mobility, troubleshooting, and for loaning to my husband, who has a tendency to break/damage things. I don't dare loan out my favorites.) You can find very inexpensive USB devices - I like to check the clearance section of Office Depot. I rarely spend more than $5 on clearance items. So you could get a simple USB mouse to test with if you don't want to use your devices from your iMac.

Speaking of USB devices, I just ordered Belkin's Nostromo Speedpad n52 after hearing they have Intel Mac software just updated. http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F8GFPC001&aid=5234&scid=231 And I found an old gamepad I plan to use tomorrow when my copy of Heroes of Might and Magic V game arrives with the speedpad. It's going to be a great weekend for me!

Good luck.

I'm also having bluetooth trouble with my new Mac Pro. I'm using the mighty mouse, and I can't get even a 3-4 foot range. I took the MP back to my vendor, L.A. Computer, who were not able to reproduce the problem.

While I'm glad some of you are having success with rewiring the antenna wires, I am not willing to risk my warranty. I'm making Apple deal with this.

The Apple techs I've talked to said they have never run into this issue and that there don't seem to be any reported calls on this issue. I hope some of you will call in and let Apple know. I'll write again and let you guys know what happens.

Agreed. Apple is aware and is not responding. Unfortunately, the fix that is described is helpful for the wireless mouse function, but at the expense of the airport extreme's speed. I initially tried the "fix", which seemed to work well initially. I soon realized that streaming music to my airport express from the airport extreme was slowed dramatically, requiring frequent buffering and studdering of the playback! Other wireless functions may not be noticeably affected, so others may not be aware of the problem. When I switched the leads back to factory placement, other wireless functions were corrected as the mouse function deteriorated. I truly feel that the antenna leads are CORRECTLY labled, but the bluetooth lead is not positioned in the case properly and is being interfered with by some component. This issue makes the wireless mouse function intolerable and must be addressed by Apple!
I have recently switched to mac from pc and am really disappointed in how this has beed handled. I truly expected more responsiveness from Apple "care". I hope other users don't depend on "band-aid" solutions and will demand that this issue be corrected!! I have too much invested in this machine to expect less!!
