Edit Table of Contents

I'm writing a novel using Pages 5

Using the Help notes I've attempted to create a Table of Contents doing the following:-

1. Insert page numbers in footer and justify to centre.

2. Allocate a page for TOC and click Insert TOC

3. Select Heading 2 for my chapter heading.

The TOC automatically generates itself.

For Example

Chapter One

3

Chapter Two

5

Could you please advise me how to edit to create

Chapter One..................................Page 3

Chapter Two..................................Page 5

etc

I select Table of Contents/Text in the Inspector, but what do I do next?

Dear Peter,

I followed your instructions, and they proved clear and precise. I did the whole table.

Then I tried a link

.................

Nothing.

Then, egg on face time, I noticed the Make All Hyperlinks Inactive box, {VITAL while you are creating the list of course!} and unchecked it.

Everything works, so now I have a TOC which LOOKS like I want it to look, and PERFORMS as want it to perform!

Thank you.

Tal,

SNAP!

MS Word for the best part of Three Decades, finally lose patience with Redmond messing it about --

I was just begining to feel comfortable and learn its little quirks and Apple crippled it in V 5.

Fortunately I found out before I 'Upgraded' and didn't.

Thanks for your

Sorry to be a nuisance' Question.

Peter's answers to us have allowed me to create a complete workaround, past the big hole in Pages TOC creation code.

Thanks again from,

One Happy Geordie Bunny,

Petra.

Dear Peter and Tal,

Very worried about that, we have ordered Gun Turrets and Moat digging equipment in anticipation.

Also I'm working on a Scanner that will identify approaching Earls of Douglas, in time for us to man the barricades.

Please think again Tal, I'm Welsh only two generations back, we need to stick together.

{Seriously, very concerned. I hope pragmatic common sense prevails over (often justified) emotions; and the personal ambitions of a very few people.}

Petra.

Good afternoon Peter,

Many thanks for your advice.

I have persevered with Pages V 5 and I think I have a solution to editing TOC while keeping the hyperlinks to the document.

Perhaps you would be good enough to look at the following.

Note: I use Page Setup = A5

Page Set Up = A5

Set Style for Chapter Headings

I use Styles Heading 2

Insert TOC = Wrong spacing etc

Select all of TOC = Blue

Inspector Text : Indents

Set First Indent to 0 cm. Don't change the others

Stops = 10cm (Seems OK for A5)

Alignment = Centre

Leader = your choice

Select all and modify colour and font if required

Please let me know what you think.

Regards from Wales, UK.

Sut Mae Ian,

Thanks for your greetings from 'down under.'

I've been following your comments on what has been gained from Pages 5 with interest. Perhaps there's more to this App than is appreciated.

Meanwhile I add (not related to Pages 5),

To all Welsh People over land and sea,

I send warm greetings from Wales for March 1st our National Day.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi i chi gyd.
