what is mevio? Suddenly need to log into mevio to get podcasts. ???

Subscribed to multiple old time radio podcasts for years. Suddenly, iTunes is telling me I have to sign in to something called "mevio" in order to access my podcasts.

What is this? What do I do?

Thanks,

George

It means that the feed hosted at mevio has been removed - I know that some of the Old Time Radio ones were moved (to libsyn) recently, so that may be it. If you resubscribe via itunes or by grabbing the xml feed from the website, it may work. As a stopgap, if you unsubscribe from the podcast, it will at least stop the constant popups.

I'd help more clearly but unfortunately I'm having the same problem right now but I have absolutely no idea which podcast is making the request, and as far as I can tell there's no way to find out. Good old itunes.

Here's what I did after I found out that Mevio no longer exists. (You can check Wikipedia or Google it.)

1) In iTunes (podcasts list) I did a search for Mevio, and some Old Time Radio Comedy podcasts showed up. I had never subscribed to these podcasts, but had downloaded 7 about 5 years ago.

2) I copied them to a new folder on my desktop (but not the mother folder).

3) I deleted the podcasts from iTunes, along with the mother folder. I checked and they were all in the Trash, and I verified that my new desktop folder still held my 7 original podcasts.

4) I dragged these 7 podcasts to the upper side of the sidebar and they were re-imported into my podcasts in a "new" folder, Old Time Radio Comedy. There is no longer an i button for information (that previous gave the Mevio url).

My podcasts have survived, and I no longer get that annoying log in window 4 times a day! Whew!

A couple things Apple could do to help with this problem are (1) instead of "this podcast" in the alert, actually name the podcast, because a domain alone isn't enough when it's refreshing all of them, and (2) reverse the new policy to refresh all podcasts including those that are unsubscribed.

It used to be enough to just unsubscribe to a podcast to cease communication with the server. Now we have to purge them entirely, including back episodes we wanted to save. If you have back episodes of, say GeekBrief.tv, a formerly mevio podcast, that you want to keep, you may be able to convert them to another type of media file like Music or Books. Maybe do the same for all unsubscribed and discontinued podcasts.

That Apple also removed the buttons in the list indicating which podcasts were unsubscribed will make this more difficult. You'll have to highlight them individually to discover their status at the bottom of the window.
